This week and year starts off with a bang (or was that a Champagne cork I heard?):
Sunday, January 3rd
The new Congress is sworn in.
Monday, January 4th
La réentrée - For many of us, it's back to work / school.
Tuesday, January 5th
Senate runoff elections in Georgia.
Wednesday, January 6th
The official opening and counting of the Electoral College ballots, confirming Joe Biden as President-elect and Kamala Harris as Vice-President-elect, followed by a futile effort by certain "sore losers" to overturn the election results for President (but not for down-ballot races, including themselves in some cases).
Celebration in France of Epiphany, with the traditional Galette des Rois (don't break a tooth on the hidden fairy - the hospitals are already too busy!)
Thursday, January 7th
The return of First Thursday Drinks with Democrats Abroad Lyon (virtual via WebEx):
- Recap of the week's events so far.
- Farewell to Julie Shapiro who is leaving Lyon for Israel to pursue her research into viral infections.
- Call for new candidates for our board - we're looking for fresh blood!
Bring your favorite beverage and join us for a couple of hours of conviviality!
