Join us in London for the screening of the documentary "Kenyatta: Do Not Wait Your Turn", an electrifying portrait of one of the most inspiring members of the next generation of political leaders in America. Followed by a live online Q&A with Rep Kenyatta, his team and the filmmaker Tim Harris.
A groundbreaking activist, campaigner representative and legislator
Pennsylvania State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta is no stranger to adversity. Born and raised in North Philadelphia in a family he describes as "working poor," his talent as a community advocate led him at the age of just 28 to become the first openly LGBTQ person of color ever to be elected to PA's General Assembly. .
His bid for the Democratic nomination in PA's 2022 US Senate primary brought him to national attention. Although Kenyatta ultimately lost that race to now-Senator John Fetterman, he campaigned vigorously to help create PA’s vital 2022 blue wave.
His profile continues to rise. Earlier this year, President Biden appointed him Chair of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans and to the National Advisory Board for President Biden and Vice President Harris's 2024 reelection campaign.
About the film
An elegantly produced and award-winning documentary, it chronicles his experiences and inspiring appearances on that 2022 Senate Primary campaign trail with his husband Dr. Matthew Kenyatta, Director of Justice and Belonging at the University of Pennsylvania.
With a hopeful message of rising above circumstances and lack of representation to become a leader needed for the moment, Kenyatta - an authoritative, engaging and inspiring communicator - calls upon all of us to step up and ‘do not wait your turn!”
This event is co-sponsored by the DA Pennsylvania State Team and the DA Black Caucus and is part of a global in-person screening. Other screenings will be held in Frankfurt and Toronto.
The evening will feature a full in-person screening of the film and a live, online Q&A session with State Rep. Kenyatta and the filmmaker. Attendees will have a chance to submit questions directly to State Rep. Kenyatta.
