  • A Conversation with Amy Friedman, Former National Field Director of the DLCC

Join us for a conversation with Amy Friedman, former National Field Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, as part of our Conversations from the Campaign Trail.

Amy previously worked on the DLCC’s effort to help flip the VA House and Senate in 2019 as Virginia State Advisor and as Senator Warren’s VA State Director in the 2020 primary. Before joining the DLCC, Amy worked in states all across the country as an organizer and campaign manager.

At this event, Amy will share her experiences on the campaign trail, and what it’s like to work on so many different parts of a campaign. She’ll also give a brief rundown of one of the most important elections of 2021: the House of Delegates election in the state of Virginia.

    Earth Day DIY Workshop

A year ago we decided to do our small part to save the planet on earth day by having members share their earth friendly Do-It-Yourself ideas. Last year we learned how to make earth friendly toilet bowl cleaner, deodorant and facial scrub. This year we will have a few new people presenting and perhaps a repeat performance (hope your face needs a good scrub!!). By RSVPing, you will get a list of ingredients well beforehand. Join us for this fun and earth friendly DIY session.

    Write to your Representatives

If we want meaningful climate action, we must demand it from our representatives.  The best way to do that is to contact them.  Here is a pre-wrtten letter you can send to your representatives.  Be sure to add in a personal example, too!

21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge

Have you ever made a successful change in your life? Perhaps you wanted to exercise more, eat less, or change jobs? Think about the time and attention you dedicated to the process. A lot, right? Change is hard. Creating effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of power, privilege, supremacy, and leadership is like any lifestyle change. Setting our intentions and adjusting what we spend our time doing is essential. It’s all about building new habits. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. The good news is, there’s an abundance of resources just waiting to empower you to be a more effective player in the quest for equity and justice.

About the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge

    • For 21 days, do one action to further your understanding of power, privilege, supremacy, oppression, and equity
    • This plan includes suggestions for readings, podcasts, videos, observations, and ways to form and deepen community connections. Suggestions are in the following categories:

    READ

    LISTEN

    WATCH

    NOTICE

    CONNECT

    ENGAGE

    ACT

    REFLECT

    STAY INSPIRED

    TIPS FOR SUCCESS

    • Choose one activity per day to further your understanding of power, privilege, supremacy, oppression, and equity.
    • Diversify your habits by doing some of each.
    • Use the tracking chart provided here to stay on course. You can download the editable spreadsheet or a PDF for printing.
    • We think understanding white privilege and white supremacy is a powerful lens into the complexities of doing social justice work, so we’ve focused our resources on that specific issue.
    • Check-in with us on Saturday, February 20th, and Sunday, February 28th!  We'll email you with the precise times and meeting information.
