    DAB Movie Night - Selma

To celebrate Black History Month, Democrats Abroad Belgium is proud to present the landmark film, Selma.  Focusing on the struggle to secure voting rights for African-Americans, Selma has been described as “a truly gripping film” which tells the story of the march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in March of 1965.  The movie also explores the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the contributions of his family, colleagues and other civil rights organizations facing the wrath of the segregationist Alabama Governor George Wallace, the infamous Sheriff Bull Connor and others determined to prevent African-Americans from voting.

Doors will open at 6:30pm for voter registration and networking drinks. The film will start promptly at 7:30pm. Following the viewing, Robin Lofton, an independent historian and founder of, will lead a discussion to provide additional insights about the film and to examine the historical and current threats to voting rights in America. Since Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded Black History Month, it has been a time for all Americans to remember the contributions, learn of the struggles and celebrate the triumphs of African-Americans.  For another learning and entertainment opportunity, ask about the African-American History Challenge kits available for a special price throughout this history-filled month!
