Winnipeg Chapter - Notice of Annual General Meeting + Candidate statements

DemsAbroad Winnipeg

SATURDAY, May 1, 2021
1:00 PM CT on WebEx

The Board of Democrats Abroad Canada – Winnipeg
invites you to attend your Annual General Meeting

The Winnipeg Chapter is in the stage of reformation, and the AGM is an opportunity for members from across Manitoba to come together to discuss plans for chapter sustainability, and for a report on the activities of Manitoba members for the 2020 election.

During the AGM, elections for the chapter leadership for the 2021-23 term will take place.

A Call for Nominations was distributed to the members on Mar. 14th and you can access Candidate Statements by clicking here.

Some offices did not receive nominations, which will be open for nominations from the floor during the AGM. We’re hopeful there are a few people in the chapter who are interested in working with fellow Americans to engage the Manitoba members and prepare for the mid-term elections. Leaders can be anywhere in Manitoba. You are not expected to know the inner-workings of DemsAbroad to be a chapter leader, and you’ll have the support of other chapters, and DemsAbroad Canada. Only members present in the AGM will be able to vote for any nominations from the floor. Ballots will be distributed on April 10th. If you are interested in an office without a declared candidate please send an email to the Nominations & Elections Committee prior to May 1st.

Democratically yours,

Call for nominations ~ Help create a community by becoming a leader in the Winnipeg Chapter!

The attack on the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6th reminded us that democracy is fragile and our work to protect and strengthen it is more important than ever, and we invite you to share in shaping the future of America.

An important next step for the Winnipeg Chapter is to
elect our Board for the 2021-2023 term.

We are very grateful to Ben Miller for his leadership and efforts in 2020, motivating members of the Winnipeg Chapter to engage in several of Canada’s get out the vote initiatives, with the support of DR. MJ Willard. They were able to engage with many members to assist in delivering a record voter turnout from Americans living in Canada.

But DemsAbroad Canada is at a decision point of whether or not the Winnipeg chapter, which has several hundred members, can continue to be an ongoing entity…we need your help!

You may serve a leadership role from anywhere in the chapter, which is much larger than its name implies. Whether you live in Winnipeg, Brandon, Flin Flon, or anywhere in Manitoba, there’s a spot for you. As the Nominations and Elections Committee, we invite you to learn about the Board positions, and to consider a nomination.

You do not need to know the ins and outs of Democrats Abroad to be in chapter leadership. We’re a 100% volunteer organization - everyone in elected office at the chapter and national levels is continuously learning new things about the organization. Plus you’ll have support from the Canada country committee and thirteen other chapters so you’re not operating on your own.

Eligibility: American citizens residing in Canada, legal voting age, a member in good standing of the Democrats Abroad Canada – Winnipeg chapter, and willing and able to handle the duties while adhering to the principles of the Democratic Party of the United States.

Terms are two (2) years. As a Board member you will be expected to actively participate in the management of the Chapter, including attendance at monthly board meetings, either in-person or virtually.

Please refer to the Democrats Abroad Canada Bylaws for more details.

Here are actions you can take:

DA Manitoba  is a chapter of DA Canada, the official country committee for US Democrats living in Canada. Watch this space for upcoming announcements of meetings and events - we have events planned throughout the year, and encourage anyone interested in participating to get in touch.

Hundreds of American citizen volunteers across Canada are working to educate all eligible U.S. voters on their right to vote and how to get their ballots to vote in every election. That includes Canadians who were born in the U.S. and those born in Canada to an American parent(s), who therefore have the right to vote. Americans living in Canada CAN deliver the difference in close elections.
