It is time for our bi-annual election of National Democrats Abroad France (DAF) officers. Note that these are national positions, not chapter level positions.

The Elections Committee WILL BE ANNOUNCING THE candidates for the following positions:

(Please click on the link for the specific duties of each position.)

The requirements are as follows:

  • Each national officer is to serve a term of two years, and none may serve for more than two consecutive terms in the same office.
  • The Chair and the First Vice Chair must be of different sex. As to gender balance issues, seats are awarded after the election to the candidate of the appropriate gender selected by order of number of votes received.
  • The National Counsel must be a qualified legal practitioner.
  • Additional requirements and specific duties are set forth in Articles 9 and 11 of the Democrats Abroad France By Laws, which are available on-line at this link.

A nomination may be submitted by any DAF member including a member who seek to nominate him or herself. The deadline for submitting nominations WAS 24:00 on March 27, 2019.

You may nominate yourself, be nominated by someone else, or you may nominate others for an executive officer position for Democrats Abroad France.

To make a nomination, please email the Elections Board at ([email protected]) with the name of the person and the position for which they are being nominated. If you are nominating another person, please put that person on copy of your email. A member of our Elections Board will follow up.

Nominees are asked to prepare a short statement of no more than 200 words regarding their candidacy. Final candidate statements should be submitted before the nominations period closes by March 27, 2019 in order to give the Elections Board time to prepare for their public announcement not later than April 11, 2019.

It is recommended that all candidates be prepared to attend the Leadership Elections on May 11, 2019 and speak on behalf of their candidacy, but attendance at the election meeting is not a requirement. To RSVP, go here.

Candidates should note that if elected their active participation in Democrats Abroad and their attention to their assigned tasks is essential to the success of the Party and a requirement under the Democrats Abroad France Articles of Association. In particular, the Chair, both Vice Chairs and the Voting Representatives are expected to participate in international meetings of Democrats Abroad either via videoconference (such as WebEx) or by attendance in person. The next scheduled meeting of Democrats Abroad at the international level is a meeting in Washington on May 17-19, 2019.

Names of the qualifying individuals (as determined by the Elections Committee), must be published at least (30) days in advance (April 11, 2019) of the scheduled election meeting of the DAF (May 11, 2019).

The newly elected officers shall assume their duties immediately following the national election, which will take place at the Annual General DAF Meeting in Paris on May 11th, 2019.

Please submit nominations via [email protected] no later than 24:00 Central European Time (8:00 p.m. EDT) on March 27, 2019.

Any comments or questions can be sent to the Elections Board Committee, [email protected].
