Within his first 100 days, President Biden appointed over 200 known LGBTQ+ Americans to his administration, marking a historical first and helping make the Biden-Harris administration the most diverse in US history. Other LGBTQ+ officials were elected in 2022 across the country: Maura Healey in MA and Tina Kotek in OR are America’s two first openly lesbian governors, and SJ Howell is the first openly non-binary person in the Montana legislature. Danica Roem, the first openly transgender person to be elected to a state legislature, was elected in 2017 to the Virginia House of Delegates and in 2023 to the Virginia State Senate.
On April 26th, the Biden-Harris administration strengthened the Affordable Care Act to ensure protections on the basis of sexual orientation and improve protections for gender identity. This step ensures nondiscrimination in health care and insurance policies for LGBTQ+ citizens.
We have much to celebrate this Pride Month! Check out all DA’s online Pride events celebrating the LGBTQ+ community here, including an event with Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin on June 18th.
On Wednesday June 19th at 7pm, please join the DA France Black Caucus in celebration of Juneteenth with an evening of performances by African-American singers living in France. We will lift every voice and sing! There will be performances by Paris-based artists Albert Pettus and Brian Bagley.
The event is free of charge, but guests must purchase dinner and drinks. We'll gather at Café Leontine (Metro Cambronne). Reservations are required; go here for more information and to RSVP.
Also, the DA Global Black Caucus is holding an online Juneteenth event June 19th from 9am to 9pm: Drop in when you like, join the conversation, and make good trouble! Go here for more information.
On Thursday, July 11th at 7pm in Paris, please join us in welcoming Derek Marshall, candidate for the House of Representatives in California’s 23rd district. We’ll have the exciting chance to hear from Derek and have an informal discussion over wine, cheese, and charcuterie in a Parisian brasserie.
Derek Marshall is an organizer and community activist, running to fight for justice, equality, and progress. He helped found a global research initiative with the UN and gained insights into effective social programs while working internationally. After seeing the contrast between European social safety nets and American austerity economics, Derek felt compelled to return to the US and fight for living wages, LGBTQ+ rights, universal healthcare, and more. Please join us on July 11th to hear how he’ll use what he’s learned to push for progress in the House of Representatives. For more information and to RSVP, please go here.
News that Didn't Make the Headlines
Public Lands, Climate Protection, and Ticketmaster Antitrust: The Biden-Harris Administration, like most Democratic administrations, has its share of scientists. But unlike past Democratic administrations, the Biden-Harris Administration has, in response to grassroots pressure from Native leaders, placed Indigenous leaders in key land-stewardship roles. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland is an enrolled Laguna Pueblo Tribe member, and Director of the National Park Service Charles Sams III is an enrolled member of the Cayuse and Walla Walla Tribes. According to American Progress, in 2023 alone, the Department of the Interior protected more than 12.5 million acres of public lands, about the size of Virginia. Read more about their accomplishments here.

Want to take things a step further and help us get out the vote this year? Help with our voter assistance tabling events this fall (no training required). We can give or send you business cards and bookmarks with voter assistance information for you to give out to American family, friends, and colleagues. You can send postcards to our members to remind them to vote, or get trained in voter assistance and help out by answering emails. There are many ways to lend a hand!
Help Americans abroad vote to keep The Former Guy out of office, protect democracy, and retake the House so we can accomplish even more of the progressive Biden-Harris agenda! Fill out this form, and we’ll contact you to let you know all the ways you can help.
Intern with Us
We're actively seeking interns for late August through mid-November. Interns must be students in France, must be aged 18 or older, and may be US or French citizens. For more information, please email DA France National Chair Dani Follett.
We're spending money on everything we can think of to get the attention of Americans living here: advertising on social and traditional media, phonebanking, and printing VoteFromAbroad.org cards to hand out.
We need funds to support our volunteers. We need to register voters now, build our volunteer base, and find Americans. We need your money all year long, but money NOW is more valuable than money in October.
When the votes are tallied in November, and everyone sees how OUR votes made the difference, our influence grows, and our priorities get addressed.
To donate to DA France, please click here. Please consider giving as a monthly sustaining donor: These investments, big or small, help us immensely as they allow us to budget for the rest of the year.
We’re very grateful for your donation!
