Montréal 'No Tyrants' rally DAQC pre-meetup

The U.S. Administration is escalating its attacks:
- it’s sending militarized forces in communities,
- it’s threatening free speech,
- it’s rolling back civil rights,
- it’s conducting mass deportations, and
- it’s manipulating voting rules for it’s own gain
— all while families struggle.
The president acts as if his rule is absolute, but “we, the people” of the U.S. won’t put up with it, and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.
This isn’t just politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship — and together, we choose democracy.
On October 18, millions across the U.S. and around the world will rise together in a coordinated day of action to say loud and clear: No Tyrants. The power belongs to the people.
Montréal Action
📍 10:30 AM – Democrats Abroad Québec chapter members will meet-up in front of 'LE 1000 DE LA GAUCHETIÈRE', Montréal QC H3B 4W5;
✊ 11:00 AM – We will join allies a block & a half away in PLACE DU CANADA Park, 1100 rue de la Cathédrale, Montréal QC H3B 2V4.
Together, we’ll stand in solidarity with our American neighbours and take part in the worldwide No Kings / No Tyrants Day protest movement.
In the U.S. and countries without monarchies, October 18 is marked as “No Kings Day.” Here in Canada, to avoid confusion, we’re calling it “No Tyrants Day.”
Wherever people gather, the spirit is the same: to stand together and say loud and clear—
-
No to tyrants.
-
No to dictators.
-
No to oligarchs.
-
No to autocrats.
Local Twist: We're trading "No Crowns" for "No Clowns" 🎪
We invite participants to get creative:
-
Dress as a “Tr*mp clown” (orange face paint, bad blonde wig, long red tie).
-
Or as one of his clownish cronies.
Bring your friends, your energy, and your imagination — let’s make PLACE DU CANADA Park a joyful, peaceful space for democracy.
Why We’re Showing Up
-
Because democracy is fragile.
-
Because wannabe dictators & would-be tyrants threaten liberty.
-
Because America — and the world — deserves better than clowns in power.
“Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.”
— Langston Hughes
And remember: it only takes 3.5% of the population in sustained, nonviolent resistance to force change (Erica Chenoweth, Why Civil Resistance Works).

Ground Rules & Guidelines
Accessibility
'LE 1000 DE LA GAUCHETIÈRE' & PLACE DU CANADA Park are centrally located, accessible by metro (Bonaventure station) & REM (Gare-Centrale), and pedestrian-friendly. Commercial facilities are nearby, and the area is easy to navigate for all ages and abilities.
Peaceful & Nonviolent
WE ESPOUSE NONVIOLENT ACTION. We are committed to peaceful assembly and to de-escalating any potential confrontations with those who may disagree with us. As John Lewis said, let’s make “Good Trouble.”
Signs & Messaging
-
Signs can call out the egregious acts of the Autocrat-in-Chief, including elements of MAGA’s “Project 2025.”
-
A Sign-Making Party will be held days before.
-
Please avoid wearing Democrats Abroad gear at this rally, as DAQC is a participant, not the organizer.
-
Should you decide to wear DA gear, we politely request our chapter members refrain from speaking on foreign affairs matters, including those involving our host country.
-
We instead suggest to keep messaging focused on democracy, human rights, equality, rule of law, and U.S. domestic issues.
