Deputy International Secretary

About the Position

Democrats Abroad (DA) was the margin of victory for Joe Biden in Georgia and Arizona, and we’re determined to continue delivering scale-tipping votes in races across the United States in 2022 and beyond. A large part of our success with U.S. voters living abroad is attributable to cohesive administrative facilitation at the International level. A successful Deputy International Secretary should have knowledge of DA’s structure and policies, IT and word processing experience, and strong interpersonal and project management skills that can be applied in a volunteer setting.

Upon appointment, and in collaboration with the International Secretary, Deputy International Secretaries from all three DA Regions (one each from the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe/Middle-East/Africa (EMEA)) will serve at the International level and be responsible for tasks as delegated.

Responsibilities

  • Attending and assisting with bi-weekly International Executive Committee meetings, including:
    • Oversight of the meeting queue of speakers
    • Working with presenters to gather presentation documents to share during meetings
    • Documentation of meeting minutes
  • Fielding member and non-member inquiries as received through various channels
  • Short- and long-term administrative project management, e.g.: 
    • Review and update organizational resources (DA website, Wiki, others)
    • Oversight and upkeep of internal contact lists and communications platforms
  • Corresponding with and assisting global team leaders regarding reporting documentation
  • Assessing and monitoring Country Committee compliance documentation
  • Collaborating with Country Committees during DA’s annual member verification
  • Attending and assisting DA’s Global Meetings, including:
    • Oversight of the meeting queue of speakers
    • Reconciliation and on-screen sharing of presentations
    • Documentation of meeting minutes

Skills & Qualifications

  • Commitment to helping DA, the Democratic Party, and Democratic candidates succeed
  • Member of Democrats Abroad (join here)
  • Understanding of DA’s organizational structure at all levels
  • Ability to manage multiple projects across multiple time zones 
  • Ability to work with all levels of technical skills in a volunteer setting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, especially with Google Workspace and NationBuilder
  • Familiarity with data privacy law, specifically GDPR, and implications of DA’s security policies
  • Ideally familiar with Atlassian, Mobilize, Intercom, and WebEx

Logistical Details

Location: Online

Estimated Time Commitment: 6-10 hours/week, with the understanding that hours may need to increase in peak election months (August-November 2022) 

Language: English   

Start Date: From January 10, 2022

End Date: May 2023

Compensation: Unpaid (but tremendously rewarding!)
