April 2022 Newsletter - April is Earth Month!

Welcome to Democrats Abroad first Environment & Climate Crisis Council (ECCC) Newsletter! We are delighted to share interesting events within DA related to the environment and climate, offer avenues for climate activism and provide periodic analysis of current developments, policies, and legislation that address the existential challenges facing our planet today

The stakes could not be higher! And now, with conflict raging in Europe, millions of people displaced, and energy supplies severely disrupted, the prospects for reaching the world climate goals are set further in jeopardy. Raising your voices now and fighting for the Democratic agenda is critical to meeting these challenges, not just for American lives but for those the world over.

For a little background, our new Council advocates for systemic climate and environmental policies and solutions within the global Democratic community. We aim to connect voter engagement with efforts to address climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a focus on environmental justice. The ECCC aspires to amplify the voices and expertise of those disproportionately harmed by environmental threats and to advocate for policies and candidates that address historical injustices that exacerbate environmental injury. As such, our Council maintains an intersectional approach in our endeavors. Working in tandem with all other DA caucuses is vital, as their interests conjoin with the ECCC's.

An important way to get out our message is through social media. We really need your help in extending our important message by following, liking, and subscribing to our newly established social media accounts: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. We can't beat the algorithms without your help.

The DA ECCC supports candidates that prioritize actions to address environmental health, desertification, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and food security while supporting longer-term responses that enable adaptation and mitigation to climate change. If the Republicans take control of the House or the Senate there will be no more action on Climate. There is no time to waste.

To conclude Earth Month, the Environmental & Climate Crisis Council and the Global Progressive Caucus will co-host a global rally, highlighting our climate emergency and what we must do to effectively address it.

#ClimateVote The ECCC is starting the #ClimateVote initiative to encourage everyone to vote to save themselves by electing people who want to take substantive action on climate change. As of 2022, there is only one major political party (The Democratic Party) that is willing to do something about it. We need to hold the Senate, the House, and as many down-ballot races as possible. We're asking DA members to make a video to help get out the vote and also alert people to the importance of our government taking meaningful action to stop climate change. More information here.

💻 Phone banking is one of the easiest and most effective ways for us to mobilize fellow Democrats around the globe. In 2020, DA callers made over 600,000 calls! Find out more.

Volunteer with the ECCC! Can you help us get out the word to overseas Americans about the climate crisis – and that their vote can make a difference?

We're looking for:

  • Copywriters
  • Video editors
  • Social media contributors
  • Researchers for GOTV, Comms, and other groups
  • And more.

If you can help us, don't hesitate to get in touch with [email protected] today.
