Rarely has a talk on climate change been so clear! On March 10th, Professor of Global Ecology Wolfgang Cramer, expert on climate change and deputy director of the Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d’Ecologie Marine et Continentale (IMBE) in Aix, took us step by step through today's most important issues concerning the ecological state of our world. Cars - the sea level - the Antarctic - the Paris Agreement were just some of the topics touched by Prof Cramer who opened our eyes to new information. The political implications were clear - What kind of planet will we leave for our grandchildren? Our actions today - as small as they may be - whether choosing a bike over a car or casting a vote! - DO make a difference and will decide our future.
The audience at the Mado café in Aix was extremely attentive. We were honored to have Prof Cramer talk to us. Many thanks to Karen and Robert Wildau for organizing this great moment.
We linked up with our friends in the Avignon Chapter for this successful evening. This new theater in Avignon is beautiful!
40 members of Democrats Abroad France-Marseille enjoyed Thanksgiving Dinner together. Guests included Avignon Chapter Chair Joan Jarowski. Thanks again to our Vice-Chair Rick Harrison and his organic restaurant for an excellent meal and a most convivial atmosphere.

Professor Marjorie Spruill spoke last night at the Institute for American Studies to a rapt audience of students, teachers and members of our chapter.
Marjorie Spruill: "We shall go forth."
She brilliantly showed us where a source of our deeply divided nation can be found by taking us step by step through the history of the women's movement. Members of the audience included former Minister Counselor in the US Foreign Service, Philip Breeden, who helped organize the event, Aurélie Delaissez-Forstall who takes care of Public Affairs at the US Consul General in Marseille, and the directors of several study abroad institutions in town such as Wellesley and CSU.
Dr. Spruill's husband, historian Don Doyle, and some of the the crowd.
Dean of IAU Leigh Smith introduces Marjorie Spruill.
DAF-M member Tashina Giraud hosted a perfect House Party to greet Elizabeth Warren live in Marseille during our across-the-globe Webinar on Sunday 17 September. Sen. Warren was as inspiring as ever.
Many thanks to Tashina for her warm hospitality and her Mi Casa Tu Casa (in honor of the dreamers) spirit!
Philip Breeden, former Minister Counselor in the US Foreign Service, spoke to 35 people in the Marseille Chapter about Resisting Trump on Labor Day weekend. The questions following the excellent talk were as varied and expert as the delicious dishes of the potluck that day! Many thanks to all, and to Philip for his skilled participation.
WELCOME TO DEMOCRATS ABROAD MARSEILLE!
We are a diverse, friendly, politically active community of U.S citizens who are Democrats living in the Aix-Marseille region of France. Our chapter conducts activities which are in-person when possible and also participates in on-line local, country and global events and actions. We have learned that we can be quite effective in both ways.
Democrats Abroad made a significant difference in the results of the 2020 elections (including in the Georgia run-offs) and our chapter played a big part, particularly in the Get Out the Vote programs. We are looking forward to continuing this work as we head toward critical midterm elections where the balance of power in the Senate will be at stake in the face of major voter suppression efforts by Republicans in almost every state.
Our members organize events (from social gatherings to discussions of the status of organized labor or violence against women and the ERA). We also participate in Democrats Abroad events which include visits from members of Congress and the Cabinet (some of whom are past DA members). We have received a special “thank you” visit from the Chair of the Democratic Party and had speakers from around the globe as well as around town.
Democrats Abroad has 8 major Caucus Groups and we have Aix-Marseille Chapter members active with all of them (LGBTQ+, Youth, Progressive, Veterans and Military Families, Hispanic, Asian/American Pacific-Islander, Black and Women’s). We collaborate with the local US Consulate as well as businesses and educational institutions.
As often as possible we try to commemorate or celebrate an American holiday together – from Thanksgiving to Memorial Day and we are frequently privy to discussion of history, books and cultural trends and issues which often bring new meaning to these holidays.
There are countless ways to become involved and to benefit from membership in Democrats Abroad. We encourage you to join us and explore the many opportunities to make a difference for yourself and for all Americans. Contact us with any questions our join now @
