Democratic Viewpoints May Book Club

Join volunteers Elaine and Erica to read and discuss a variety of democratic perspectives. 

They tend to select by authors with extensive lived experience as political outsiders, from demographics that are typically underrepresented in political literature hoping to discover unconventional insights into American political life and systems.

May’s book is Becoming by Michelle Obama in anticipation of upcoming U.S. holidays, Juneteenth and Independence Day. It traces the key experiences that shaped her—from her childhood among early civil rights organizers on Chicago’s South Side, to her career balancing work outside and inside the home, through her years at the White House.

Space is limited to 20 participants per month.

A Note: The book club will read one book per month for 8 months from April-October, on the 3rd Thursday from 6-7:30PM. Each discussion meeting will consist of 1 hour core discussion plus 30 minutes for those who wish to stay longer.
