How will Democrats take back the House in 2024? One obvious answer: California’s swing districts, where Democratic leaders have been hard at work developing an impressive ground game.

Join the Democrats Abroad California State Team on February 21, 2024, 12:00 PM ET, as we hear from two distinguished leaders: Betty Yee, Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party and former State Comptroller and Cassandra Chavez, the Organizing Director of the California Democratic Party.

Biography: Cassandra Chavez

Cassandra Chavez was born and raised in Fresno, California. She was the first in her family to get a college degree and attended University of California, Los Angeles. Studying International Studies ignited her interest in community organizing and in the California Democratic Party. . As the California Democratic Party’s Organizing Director, she is focused on voter outreach in the Central Valley: working with communities of color to provide eligible voters with the tools of empowerment. Organizing is the key to ensure that we fight for fair representation in the Central Valley and defend the democratic process.


Biography: Betty Yee

Betty Yee is a native of San Francisco. She attended the University of California, Berkeley as an undergraduate and earned a master's degree in public administration from Golden Gate University. After serving as Governor Gray Davis's chief deputy director for budget, she served two terms as the California State Controller. As State Controller, she supported investing in alternative energy, and protecting California’s environment. She worked to decommission the last nuclear power plant in California and the last state oil platform in the Santa Barbara Channel. She has defended California’s waters against federal oil drilling plans and protected public access to public trust lands and beaches. . Yee also serves as Vice President of California Women Lead, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for women holding or interested in running for political office and she sits on the board of trustees for the State Teachers Retirement System. Betty Yee currently serves as the Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party. Betty Yee has confirmed her plans to run for governor in the 2026 election.
