FAIL: Florida Legislature had ONE JOB

They'll be back!
The Florida regular Legislative Session will end today, but just like Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous villain's line from Terminator, legislators will have to return to Tallahassee in a week to do the ONE JOB they are constitutionally mandated to do -- pass a state budget.

Ahead of the 2025 Florida Legislative Session, Speaker of the House Danny Perez and Senate President Ben Albritton, both Republicans, promised the people of our state that this year would be focused on affordability issues. During their opening speeches during organization session in November of 2024, both presiding officers made lofty remarks vowing to make Florida affordable again, to crack down on insurance corporations price gouging policyholders, and to build an economy that worked for everyone.

Needless to say, those promises were not kept. The 2025 Florida Legislative Session was defined by infighting among Republican leadership in the Legislature, the scandal involving Hope Florida, the House Speaker’s increasingly personal feud with Governor Ron DeSantis, and attacks on the citizen-led amendment process. To top it all off, the Legislature was unable to pass a budget during the sixty day session, failing to complete the one job they are constitutionally required to do.
