Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting - Special Election for DNC Member from Asia-Pacific
The purpose of this Regional Meeting will be for Democrats Abroad's Country Chairs, Country Vice Chairs, and DA’s Voting Representatives (collectively “DPCA Voters”) in the Asia-Pacific Region to elect a new member from the Asia-Pacific Region to represent the organization on the Democratic National Committee. Aaron Kruse (Singapore) previously held this seat from May 2020 until his resignation in March 2022. The winner of the election will serve the remainder of Aaron’s term, which lasts until 2024.
The DNC member will be elected by members of the Democratic Party Committee Abroad based in Asia-Pacific—in other words, the Chairs, Vice-Chairs and Voting Representatives from Asia-Pacific Country Committees.
DA’s DNC members need to attend two meetings of the DNC in the United States each year to build bridges between DA and the Democratic Party. Travel and lodging costs are typically at one’s own expense. Our DNC members join issue caucuses, attend committee meetings, and help make the needs of Democrats Abroad known within the DNC. They will also communicate what happens at the DNC level to DA leaders and members through regular town halls.
Candidates for the Asia-Pacific DA DNC seat will be nominated from the floor and elected by DPCA Voters in attendance. However, prospective candidates do not need to be DPCA Voters to stand for election.
DA’s DNC delegation must be gender balanced. Due to the self-proclaimed gender identity of the currently-serving DNC representatives, only DA members in the Asia-Pacific Region who do not identify as female, i.e. male and nonbinary, are eligible to be elected.
As nominations will be made from the floor, interested candidates do not need to share their interest before May 21.
Further details on election rules, including exactly how someone will be nominated from the floor, the amount of time given to candidates for introductions and questions, and how the voting process will be carried out, will be shared in advance of the meeting on May 21.

Hybrid Event - in Paris and Online30th Anniversary of the GWC
LET’S CELEBRATE!
The first Democrats Abroad Women’s Caucus was created in 1992 by three staunchly feminist women in Paris France, 30 years ago. , And, it has grown to a powerhouse of activist women who are stronger than ever in 2022.
But is there cause for a celebration? Are women better off today than they were back in that famous “year of the woman” in 1992? Does the old feminist mantra “three steps forward two steps back” still hold true?
It sure does.
Backlash has hampered the feminist movement since the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848 – but it hasn’t stopped us from moving forward. A brutal pandemic and years of nonstop political and cultural polarization, a war in Europe, and the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan have left us all, especially women, in the dark. And, as we all know, women are the first victims of repressive regimes. But we are undaunted. We have become the driving force of our societies and the future depends on us.
Join us on June 18 to celebrate our 30 years of activism in Democrats Abroad. Listen to experts and activists who are behind - and in front of - the feminist movement and are taking those three steps forward.
JUNE 18, 2:00 PM TO 5:30 PM CET
At the American University of Paris, 6 rue Col Combes, 75007
