Welcome to October 2025, the (current) autumn of our discontent. I trust that, like the DACH Basel leadership, you have been watching the news from "back home" with increasing dismay. As an Illinois voter who spent time in Chicago for the DNC last year, as well as flying in and out of O'Hare with some regularity, I have been following the Chicago/ICE news with a unique and unpleasant blend of anger and helplessness.

You may be aware of the No Kings 2.0 protests being organized - in the US and abroad - for October 18, 2025. It is our understanding that there will be a NO KINGS 2.0 demonstration in Basel that morning from 10 AM to 12 PM. The event has not yet been added to the No Kings map, but check back soon to see if that has changed!

As a result, the Basel leadership is organizing a solidarity event for that morning. We will support the separate No Kings 2.0 demonstration by gathering as a group and then joining No Kings as a bloc. We will meet in central Basel at 10 AM, close to the many tram lines at Bankverein. Our No Tyrants meet-up in solidarity with No Kings will end around 12 PM.

Please note that the NO KINGS 2.0 demonstration is neither organized nor sponsored by DACH. We have created a solidarity event because we believe it may be of interest to our members. As always, please obey all local laws and maintain the proper spirit of peaceful demonstration. DACH is not responsible for the logistics of the NO KINGS 2.0 event and cannot guarantee that the information we have provided is the most up-to-date information available.

The next day, October 19, we will be hosting the next session of DA Discussions: Rebuilding a Democratic Coalition. There are currently suggesting readings linked in the event, but the topic may evolve as the situation in the US evolves. (Will the government still be shut down? Where will the National Guard have been deployed next? What other situations have arisen that we can't foresee right now, only 13 days before the event?)
