Taking Back Florida with Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried - A Part of Defending Our Democracy Series

Join us for the DA Florida State Team Kick-off and hear Florida Democratic State Chair Nikki Fried brief us on her work over the last year traveling across the state’s 67 counties for the Take Back Florida campaign!

Nikki Fried and her team are working to mobilize Florida’s voters to elect Democrats at the Federal, state and municipal levels. There have already been notable successes in the 2023 Jacksonville Mayoral election and flipping a Republican legislative seat last January!

Chair Fried knows how important Florida voters living abroad can be in close elections: in 2018 she won her race as Florida’s Comm. of Agriculture days after the election by a slim 6,753 votes, only after the votes from abroad were counted!

Date: Tuesday, April 23rd

Questions for Chair Fried:  Please send an email to [email protected] to send prospective questions in advance.

In 2018-2022, Chair Fried was the only state-wide elected Democrat in DeSantis’s first term as governor.  As Commissioner of Agriculture, she improved the gun-licensing process, fought for clean water, stood up for LGBTQ+ equality and helped build the state’s hemp industry.

She will brief us on Democrats having winning messages with the abortion access amendment likely to get on the November ballot (the state Supreme Court decision is expected within days) and the failure of the Republicans in Tallahassee again to address the state’s chronic affordable housing crisis. In addition, the legislature failed to address the rising costs of the broken property and auto insurance markets.

YOU CAN HELP TURN FLORIDA BLUE!

Stay on after we hear from Nikki Fried to learn more about DA’s Florida State Team and how you can work to mobilize Florida voters to register and get their ballots returned and counted. Track the competitive races at Federal and state levels, or join DA’s Voter Assistance team and learn how to help members overcome the difficulties of voting from abroad. There are also opportunities to train to work on the voter assistance “Intercom” program and voter outreach through phonebanking. More information on training for these assignments can be found on the DA website, www.democratsabroad.org/volunteer.

For questions on volunteer opportunities, email [email protected].

Donations: There's no cost to attend, but please consider a donation of $15 or more to help us reach voters around the world and deliver wins up and down the ballot.

Important FL Voting Information: As of December 31st, 2022, the Florida Republican State Legislature cancelled all Florida vote-by-mail ballots! You can go to  www.votefromabroad.com to print out a new registration form and also get set for all 2024 elections. We encourage all DA members to request their ballot to be sent via email.

Note about which elections will be on your ballot: The decision on whether a Florida voter abroad receives a full ballot with all Federal, state and local elections, or a ballot limited to Federal elections, varies among the 67 Florida Supervisors of Elections. For more guidance on the impact of the response to the FPCA “intent to return” question, go to our Floridians Abroad Page.

We look forward to seeing you on April 23rd!
