The gorgeous photographs shown below were taken on May 27, 2023, by Terese Sarno, Co-Chair of Democrats Abroad Germany’s Veterans and Military Families Caucus.
The first photo is of the gravesite of U.S. Army General George Patton, a key figure of World War II and a legend among military strategy scholars. The gravesite is located at Luxembourg American Cemetery, one of Europe’s most beautiful cemeteries operated by the American Battle Monuments Commission. The second depiction is a view of the immaculately maintained cemetery from the perspective of General Patton’s gravesite. The third image is a close-up of the stunning wreath provided by Democrats Abroad Germany’s Veterans and Military Families Caucus, which was laid at the cemetery on Memorial Day 2023.

According to Miguel Ortiz, U.S. Army veteran and author of the article “The reason General Patton is buried in Luxembourg”:
“...Patton made it known that his wish was to be buried with his soldiers at the Luxembourg American Cemetery. Patton died on December 21, 1945. His body was transported from Germany to the Third Army’s cemetery in Luxembourg. There, he was buried in the middle of a plot, the same as his troops. It was only later, after the large number of visitors caused damage to the cemetery grounds, that Patton’s grave was moved to the front of the grave plots. His wife, Beatrice, died on September 30, 1953. She was cremated and a portion of her ashes was scattered on her husband’s grave.”
