VMF Artwork: “The USS Constitution” Digital Art by “Fritz”

Teen artist “Fritz” yet again impresses us with his art skills – this time creating a digital piece of artwork. As a reminder, Marine veteran Allie Diaz of Democrats Abroad Spain is the parent of the multi-talented Fritz.

Some may recall some details about the USS Constitution and its place in American history. The 15-year-old artist Fritz chose to create his rendition of this ship on an illustration tablet.

The USS Constitution, nicknamed “Old Ironsides,” was one of the first naval ships authorized by Congress, and it was used in the War of 1812. Fritz first became fascinated by this ship because, although it was made of wood, it was so strong that British cannonballs seemed to bounce off its hull. American icon Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr., wrote a famous poem titled “Old Ironsides” to save the ship from post-war destruction per the U.S. Navy’s plans. After the poem's publication, public outcry led to the ship's rescue, and it went on to serve as a training vessel for sailors in the 1800s.

Incredibly, the USS Constitution – the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat – is still around today. One can see this amazing vessel by visiting Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard. Fritz was fortunate to live near several military installations, which may have inspired him to create such works. In his illustration displayed below, it shows the Constitution, in all its glory, setting sail out at sea. The VMF Caucus looks forward to more amazing works by this artistically gifted young man!
