DA Thailand (DAT) is part of Democrats Abroad, the official arm of the U.S. Democratic Party for the estimated 9 million Americans living outside the United States. Our mission is to mobilize the overseas vote to elect Democratic candidates in all US elections. Democrats Abroad is active in 54 countries throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, and is the largest volunteer-driven organization of Americans living abroad.

DAT has active chapters in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, and we’re open to organizing chapters in other parts of the Kingdom as well – we’d love your participation if you want to help get a chapter off the ground closer to where you live!

In addition to voter registration, we participate in Congressional advocacy on issues that matter to Americans Abroad such as changing from citizenship-based to residence-based taxation, or the ability to use Medicare benefits overseas. DA also has many global, issues-based caucus groups you can join. Getting involved with DAT is a great way to meet like-minded Americans and enjoy social events, movie screenings, pub nights, live online chats with US political candidates, debate watch parties, and gathering to see election returns roll in.

In support of the upcoming 2024 elections, we will be running Voter Assistance Cafes in Bangkok and Chiang Mai later this year. If you have the time and motivation, we NEED VOLUNTEERS to help register voters and to remind those who are already registered to request their ballots.

Democrats Abroad had a significant impact in the 2020 election, providing the votes that put the Biden/Harris ticket over the top in Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin. To ensure continued Democratic majorities in the House and Senate we’re determined to mobilize for the upcoming midterms in the same way so please sign up for phone-banking to help us reach fellow Democrats around the world and remind them to vote.
