September is Take-Action Month!

Frankfurt in Action

2024 is at the door, and with it comes unimagined changes for our country - which could be very good or extremely bad. Whether we like it or not, we have the responsibility to take action in order to restore the integrity of our country. Responsibility is not heavy, it is an opportunity to take back lost personal power, and generate a sustainable personal energy. We can do this by coming together, creating community, and doing tiny actions. Let’s have a dialogue on where we need to be by 2024 and how we, as a chapter, can get there.

Frankfurt Chapter Feedback Corner

Some members have expressed concern over the pricing of some Democrats Abroad ("DA") events. Below are excerpts between a Frankfurt chapter member and the chair.

“Recently I have observed that DA has become much much more aggressive in asking for donations. I understand that money plays a big role in US politics. This is a most unfortunate situation and I would like to see big changes in this area…Starting at USD 25 is simply too much. This overlooks the reality of many voters and potential voters and also quite frankly contradicts the inclusive message …. Not everybody is financially comfortable or well-heeled or has profited financially from the pandemic….

DA's main goal is to reach out to voters, educate them, and help them vote. The primary aim is to activate the estimated 90% of eligible overseas voters who do not vote. To achieve this goal I believe DA will need to find a more inclusive policy with respect to charging for event(s) …..

In response to the member's suggestion, a bronze ticket category was added to the Kenyatta event. It was great to get together, have a dialogue, and find a way to be more inclusive.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Grace Tasch

I am a native of Washington, D.C., and growing up, I always enjoyed studying foreign languages. My late father frequently travelled to Germany in connection with his work, and we had German family friends, giving me a particular connection to the language and the country. After I completed my master’s degree in translation and interpretation, I relocated to the Rhine-Main area in late 1994 to begin my career, and am now based in Frankfurt am Main, where I live with my husband, son and our family dog. I have been a member of the Democrats Abroad Frankfurt chapter since 2020, when I felt I had to get involved and was grateful to find an active organization of like-minded people.

Grace's favorite quote: “Those who fall asleep in a democracy might wake up in a dictatorship.” Otto Gritschneder
