  • Our Communications internship program welcomes all members of the community – regardless of age or where you live. You just need to be a U.S. Citizen. Our most basic goal: help U.S. Citizens living abroad to VOTE in our country’s elections.

WHY INTERN AT DEMOCRATS ABROAD MEXICO?

We’re launching a new U.S. Citizen intern program and you can be part of it! Help shape the future of the U.S. by getting out the vote in 2024—an estimated 500,000 voting-age U.S. Citizens live in Mexico.

We are looking for part-time interns in high school, college, and post-grad to work on a diverse and challenging array of Communications projects and campaigns. We make it easy by offering a virtual, flexible schedule that accommodates any timetable.

Course Credit
Students may receive course credit for this internship. Our team will work with the intern’s school/advisor to achieve desired learning outcomes while you complete all necessary paperwork.

Great Professional Opportunities
Practice and refine many skills, including how to:

  • Excel in a remote professional work environment
  • Create and present project findings, status updates, results and strategic recommendations to cross-functional teams
  • Write professionally, use your copywriting and graphic design skills, research effectively—and develop Social Media communications and more that move people to vote, engage and stay informed
  • Develop your career by working on a series of essential projects and in different roles

  • Practice self-direction, self-sufficiency & critical thinking
  • Refine your verbal communication skills in online face-to-face and phone meetings

1. Communications Content Creator/Project Manager (Virtual) 

The Democrats Abroad (DA) Mexico Communications / Marketing Team produces Social Media and other campaigns targeting all U.S. and "Binational" citizens in Mexico.

Our goal: Generate greater awareness, engagement, interest, action, conversion and stronger Social Media presence—to motivate our members and prospects to VOTE in 2024 elections. Via our VoteFromAbroad.org online tool and voter assistance events.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?  A chance for a U.S. Citizen who believes in Voting, Democracy, and Equality (whether you’re a Democrat or Independent) to gain real-world experience in Political Communications.
How do you make yourself heard with all the noise in today’s environment? Opportunities to develop digital advertising and more to reach voters and potential voters around the world. Oh, and maybe Save Democracy as we know it!

Working remotely (virtually), we need your help to deliver:


TARGETED COMMUNICATIONS FOR OUR AUDIENCES AND TEAMS
  • Target Audiences. Covering several target audiences, each with different characteristics requiring customized, strategic content employing best social media platforms and content strategies.
  • Teams. May work with other DA teams, including web, video production, email blast, analytics, plus Get Out The Vote, Membership, Fundraising, State Teams, Caucuses and other teams.
  • SKILLS REQUIRED: Self-motivation. Applicants with solid knowledge of Communication and Marketing principles, strong organization, time management (Comms Calendar maintenance, etc.), attention to detail and ability to work virtually with diverse range of volunteers.

VIRTUAL PROJECT MANAGER: MEDIA PLATFORM / TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT
  • Scope. Research, strategy, execution, analytics, reporting and improvement recommendations.
  • Social Media Execution. Implement targeted strategies to post, boost, manage digital ad campaigns and more to increase engagement on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube and possibly TikTok and Pinterest.
  • Management Tools. May include exploring backend and other software (something like Hootsuite) and our in-house CRM.
  • SKILLS REQUIRED: Self-motivation. Applicants with solid knowledge of Social Media and Digital Ad Campaigns across platforms and channels and management tool,  engagement principles, strong analytics/reporting/strategic recommendation skills plus outstanding organization, time management, attention to detail and ability to work with a diverse range of virtual volunteers.

VIRTUAL CONTENT CREATION AND MANAGEMENT
(includes Graphic Design)
  • Scope. Research, strategy, copywriting, graphic design, production, distribution and content analysis.
  • Easy Access. Making compelling content easily accessible to our Mexico chapters. You will collect and share content of other creators and produce original content to be shared on Social Media and more.
  • Strategy. Mapping and strategizing content is a key part of identifying and motivating target audiences (both existing members and prospects). 
  • Social Media / Digital Content. You will share and create platform / audience-specific content for Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube videos, our web site and email blasts and e-newletters.
  • Print / Publicity. You will share and create platform / audience-specific content for traditional media such as banners, flyers, ads, merchandising (swag), press releases, talking points and other public relations-driven (earned media) outreach.
    —WIKI. May include organizing a wiki.
    —SCHEDULING / POSTING.
    Also responsible for scheduling and posting social media content.
    —INTERNAL COMMS. May also include internal communications and volunteer education and motivation.
  • SKILLS REQUIRED: Self-motivation. Applicants with strong creative strategy, unified messaging, copywriting, editing, production, quality control, posting skills—plus outstanding organization, time management, and attention to detail.  Being punctual and keeping up with deadlines is crucial for this position. Currently studying graphic design or experience with graphic design, Canva, PowerPoint, Google Docs and other Google applications and Trello/Hootsuite/similar app is a major plus.

2. Intern Program Manager / Developer (Virtual)   

The Democrats Abroad (DA) Mexico Team mobilizes Democratic, Independent and other abroad voters to elect more Democrats in the United States. 

Our #1 priority: educating and motivating U.S. / "Binational" citizens in Mexico to Vote in 2024. Via our VoteFromAbroad.org online tool and voter assistance events.

This is a start-up role. We envision the Intern Program Manager developing, growing and maintaining intern programs for Voter Assistance / Get Out The Vote, Membership,  Communications, Fundraising, Event Planning and more. 

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?  
A chance for a U.S. Citizen who believes in Voting, Democracy, and Equality (whether you’re a Democrat or Independent) to gain real-world experience in
Political / Non-Profit Organizational Management and Human Resources. 


Working remotely (virtually), we need your help to deliver the following for Democrats Abroad Mexico:

  • Scope. Intern Program best practices research, strategy development, execution, analytics, reporting and improvement recommendations.
  • Develop Start-up and Expanding Intern Program. May grow to include several disciplines: Communications, Get Out The Vote, Fundraising , Membership, Event Management and more.
  • HR–Recruiting and Onboarding New Interns. Via Handshake and providing guidance and performance feedback. 
  • Provide Ongoing Team Leadership for DA interns. Includes strategy, project management, developing project calendar, scheduling interns, production quality control, analytics, reporting / recommendations and more.
SKILLS REQUIRED: Self-motivation. Applicants with solid knowledge of Human Resources / Motivation best practices, strong organization, time management, attention to detail and ability to work virtually with diverse range of volunteers and interns. A major plus: If you have experience or educational background in management of interns for any of these areas: Communications / Marketing, Membership Growth, Event Planning, Volunteer Management and other disciplines.
