We are bombarded daily by the shocking and at times cruel orders coming from the Trump White House and federal agencies. We are certain that many DAN members are appalled by what the new Trump administration has done and is trying to do to destroy America’s constitutional democracy in its first month in office and wondering what we can do individually and collectively to resist. We are fortunate to live in Norway, but as we learn from each day’s new “shock and awe” stories; the words and deeds of the administration have dire, deadly, long-term implications for us here and loved ones everywhere. The Constitution, the rule of law, our civil rights, and our free press are being threatened daily and are under unrelenting attack. We can each play an essential role in fighting back. To that end, we are holding an all-hands-on-deck Town Hall meeting on March 11, both online and in person. We will share ideas from Democrats Abroad (global and local) about protecting our right to vote, petitioning from our homes outside the U.S., and being more influential. We also want to know what you, as DAN members, think about what we can and should be doing, or could do better, collectively and individually. We will discuss what our friends and allies are planning and doing and share ideas about how we can be more effective in rolling back the litany of orders coming from Trump and his minions. We will also be briefed by our DAN secretary and tech expert on some of the implications of DOGE’s incursion into the once-secure federal databases that can compromise every American’s privacy. After the Town Hall, those participating in person can meet on the first floor Centropa Restaurant & Bar for refreshments. See below for details about the Town Hall. Today Heather Cox Richardson has an excellent summary on purging the government:

This bill would require all voters to provide in-person, documentary proof of citizenship – a passport or birth certificate (with a photo ID) in most cases – anytime they register or update their registration; online voter registration could also end. We need to call and write our representatives and tell them to oppose this bill. Read more here: https://www.nonprofitvote.org/reject-save-act/ You can find your representatives here: https://www.congress.gov/contact-us https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm DAN will have elections in the late spring we need members to step up and volunteer. If you are interested in being active please contact DAN Chair here: [email protected] DAN has just completed our membership count and data clean-up; we are 95.8% clean. But we still have more than 90 members that lack data or have been so inactive they are no longer “counted”. If you RSVP to an event or use www,votefromabraod.org your status is updated; this saves our volunteers hours of time. OR you can always edit your profile on www.democracratabroad.org Take care and, if you are enjoying a winter break, we hope you will recharge your battery in the sun or snow. DA Norway. |
