DA Norway Summer News letter

Summer is upon us, which means we are less than 5 months away from what will be the most consequential election for American democracy since the election of 1860. That means that the summer will not be quiet for all of us whose principal goal is to re-elect Joe Biden and secure a Democratic Congress. A second Trump term would be unimaginable, but we must imagine it to get out the vote and stop Trump at the ballot box. In addition, 19 Senators are up for re-election, Feinstein's seat is open for election, and 3 Independents Senate seats that have Caucused with Democrats are at stake. (https://www.senate.gov/senators/Class_I.htm), so if you have not yet applied for your absent ballot go to: www.votefromabroad.org

A First for DA Norway: Congratulations to DAN Chair Christina Skovsgaard, who was elected to represent Democrats Abroad at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22. Christina was chosen, along with 12 other elected delegates, on May 31, at the DA global meeting. This is the first time anyone from Norway has been elected as a delegate to the DNC National Convention. Christina was selected based on her record of service to DA Norway & the global DA over the past 20 years and deserves our deepest thanks and our heartiest congratulations. Godspeed to Chicago, Christina!

Good news on June 13, the Mifepristone case was DISMISSED by Scotus! So abortion pill access is preserved.

"Preconceived" is a raw and insightful look into the rise of crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) that are pervading America. The documentary sheds light on how many of these centers are part of a movement striving to make abortion unthinkable and illegal. It explores the complex role of deception, finances, faith, and privacy.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (WI) Speaks to Democrats Abroad June 18.

WHEN Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 03:30 PM Eastern Time, 9:30 CET Oslo time.

Senator Baldwin is a tireless advocate for LGBTQ+ Equality and is the principal sponsor of the Equality Act, which we would dearly love to see become law, and the Respect for Marriage Act, which helped solidify marriage equality. She is also a strong voice for Democrats Abroad in the U.S. Congress, and we are likewise a big fan of hers. Democrats Abroad wants to get out the Wisconsin Abroad vote to help re-elect her to the Senate, so please join us, bring a friend.

June 19th: Make Good Trouble: Rise Up for Freedom, a Marathon video event featuring You! 9am until 9pm CET.

https://www.democratsabroad.org/make_good_trouble_rise_up_for_ourfreedom_on_juneteenth

We need to act NOW and through November 5, because none of us want to wake up to the prospect of a Trump presidency and a Republican Congress. During this marathon event, DA social media experts, all volunteers, will record and edit your video. They will help you say what you want to say about the issues that concern you most and why you will be voting in November. They’ll bring out your best to share with your family and friends to encourage them to vote too. It takes only 10 to 15 minutes, so drop in and come camera-ready.

Heather Cox Richardson will be speaking online to DA on July 10, the event is not yet posted. The date may change. Look for this & other events here: www.democratsabroad.org/events

You can find all the taxation task force recorded events here: https://www.democratsabroad.org/taxation_eventshttps://www.democratsabroad.org/taxation_events
If you want to be more involved we need volunteers, and training is provided. For more information contact [email protected].
Have a wonderful, relaxing summer. But don’t relax too much. We’ve got a lot of important work to do to ensure Democrats win in the fall.
