DA Saxony Becomes first Democrats Abroad Chapter in Central Germany
Leipzig, August 10, 2020 – After a dedicated push to create a local network of volunteers in Saxony over the past few years, Democrats Abroad Germany has created its first chapter targeting the formerly underrepresented area of Central Germany. DA Saxony will serve the nearly 3,000 Americans living in Saxony and border areas by putting emphasis on their fundamental democratic right to vote, providing a contact point for Americans in the region to engage in U.S. politics, and supporting issues that affect U.S. citizens who live overseas.
With 2020’s presidential election approaching quickly, mobilizing Americans abroad is a crucial task. Approximately six million Americans abroad are eligible to vote; of these, only 7% voted in 2016. DA Saxony will help bridge the 65% voter turnout gap between Americans living in the United States and Americans living abroad by fostering long-term, local connections.
All Americans living abroad who are interested in the activities of DA Saxony, which also represents the surrounding regions of Thüringia and Saxony-Anhalt, are invited to , visit our website at democratsabroad.org/de_saxony or attend one of our regular meetings or Get Out the Vote events.

DA Saxon wird die erste Democrats Abroad Ortsgruppe in Mitteldeutschland
Leipzig, 10. August 2020 - Nach einer engagierten Kampagne, in den vergangenen Jahren ein lokales Netzwerk von US-Amerikaner:Innen in Sachsen aufzubauen, hat Democrats Abroad Germany (DAG) die erste Ortsgruppe gegründet, die sich auf das ehemals unterrepräsentierte Gebiet Mitteldeutschlands konzentriert. Die Gruppe DA Sachsen wird den fast 3.000 US-Amerikaner:Innen, die in Sachsen und der benachbarten Region leben, dienen, indem sie das Wählen in US-Amerikanischen Wahlen erleichtert, eine Anlaufstelle für politisch interessierte US-Amerikaner:Innen in der Region bietet, und Themen unterstützt, die US-Bürger:Innen betreffen, die im Ausland leben.
Da die Präsidentschaftswahl im Jahr 2020 bereits ansteht, ist die Mobilisierung der US-Amerikaner:Innen im Ausland eine entscheidende Aufgabe. Ungefähr sechs Millionen US-Amerikaner:Innen im Ausland sind wahlberechtigt; von diesen haben 2016 lediglich 7% gewählt. Die Ortsgruppe DA Sachsen wird dazu beitragen, die Wahlbeteiligungslücke von 65% zwischen den US-Amerikaner:Innen in den USA und im Ausland durch das Aufbauen von langfristigen, lokalen Beziehungen zu überbrücken.
Alle im Ausland lebenden US-Amerikaner:Innen, die an den Aktivitäten des DA Sachsen, der auch die umliegenden Bundesländer Thüringen und Sachsen-Anhalt vertritt, interessiert sind, sind eingeladen, unsere Website unter democratsabroad.org/de_saxony zu besuchen oder an einem unserer regelmäßigen Treffen oder Get Out the Vote-Veranstaltungen teilzunehmen.
