June is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBTQ) Pride month to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for LGBTQ community. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBT Americans were commonly subjected. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBT Americans. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the June 1969 Stonewall Riots.

The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood
"Marian is determined to be ordinary. She lays her head gently on the shoulder of her serious fiancee and quietly awaits marriage. But she didn't count on an inner rebellion that would rock her stable routine, and her digestion. Marriage a la mode, Marian discovers, is something she literally can't stomach ... The Edible Woman is a funny, engaging novel about emotional cannibalism, men and women, and desire to be consumed." 354 pages.
Please share this event with your American friends and acquaintances in Berlin! As always, we welcome new faces, even if you've never attended a meeting or an event before.

IMPORTANT: Please note and remember "It has long been the policy of Democrats Abroad that we do not endorse or offer preferential treatment to any Democratic candidate when they are running against other Democrats--that includes all Democratic primary races, including presidential primaries. We are proud to support the democratic process, and the full breadth of candidates in the running for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nomination. As such, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting a fair and free impartial election, including before, during and after the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary." Full statement, here.

This is one of DA-Stuttgart's favorite events, and we'd love for you to join us! We're marching to celebrate our LGBTQ+ family and to continue demanding equal rights and protections for the LGBTQ+ community in the U.S. and worldwide.
Some important details:
• The line-up begins at Erwin-Schöttle Platz, and the parade ends at Schlossplatz. You can view the parade route here: https://www.csd-stuttgart.de/index.php/demonstrieren/demo-strecke
• We will meet at 3:00 p.m. for the line-up. The parade's official start time is 3:30. Once we have our line-up number, this event page will be updated with that information.
• We have a wagon to carry our flyers, posters, extra sunscreen, and a cooler for storing ice and water. Please consider bringing your own reusable water bottle so we can reduce the amount of bottled water needed.
• The chapter has a supply of biodegradable cosmetic glitter to bedazzle any marchers who want to sparkle responsibly. Be sure to show up early if you want to get glittery before the parade starts.
• We will have our own flags, banners, and signs, but you're welcome to make your own.
• Bring your kids, partners, friends, dogs, whoever. This is a the-more-the-merrier-sort of event.
• Please remember that while the music will be loud, outfits will be outrageous, and people will be weaving in and out of the parade groups, we are guests at this joyful event. When it comes to LGBTQ+ rights, we mean business, but this event is supposed to be loose and free and fun.
This event really is a blast, and we can't wait to see you there!
