"Hey, that's a simple solution." This is the reaction I had back in 2015 to Bernie Sanders' policy on Medicare for All. It is a universalist approach, hence its simplicity. Economic and environmental policies based on universalism withstand the test of time, which is something many people and our environment don't have much of. Sanders' universalist approach is a historic Democratic goal. The Party will win when we give people a positive reason to come out to vote. I'm an American in Japan and have enjoyed living in a society re-built on such a universalist approach to public policies. I am a small business owner and understand how domestic competition creates wealth. I am also an educator who knows how empathy for our young, can have a life long impact. I live in a city that was carpet bombed, and now how peace can thrive when we support everyone.
