Chorus:
This land is your land, and this land is my land
From California to the New York island,
From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream waters;
This land was made for you and me.
As I went walking that ribbon of highway
And I saw above me that endless skyway;
I saw below me that golden valley;
This land was made for you and me.
CHORUS
I roamed and rambled, and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
All around me, a voice was sounding;
This land was made for you and me.
CHORUS
When the sun came shining, and I was strolling
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.
CHORUS
As I went walking I saw a sign there,
Sign was painted, said, "Private Property".
But on the back side, it didn't say nothing.
That side was made for you and me.
CHORUS
In the squares of the city, in the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office, I seen my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.
CHORUS
Nobody livin' can ever stop me
As I go walkin' that freedom highway.
Nobody livin' can ever make me turn back.
This land was made for you and me.
CHORUS
We sang only the first two verses. The song has been recorded in any number of variations, including many omitting the later verses given their perceived critical attitude.
