Democrats Abroad Germany 2024 Annual General Meeting

Join us for the 2024 Democrats Abroad Germany Annual General Meeting!

2024 will be an important election year, with critical races at the federal, state, and local levels. Democrats Abroad Germany has a lot of work ahead to ensure victory in November. To be successful in November, we need all of our members to step up and get involved to help with our voter outreach efforts, including our upcoming Global Presidential Primary.

Join us in Essen for our Annual General Meeting from Friday, January 19th to Sunday, January 21st to find out what we have planned in 2024, how you can get involved, and to contribute your ideas. The meeting will be hosted by the Düsseldorf-Ruhr Chapter.

Tentative Schedule of Events

Friday, January 19

Arrive in the afternoon and check out Essen. In the evening, we will meet at Die Eislounge at Kennedyplatz starting at 5pm CET. Drinks and food are available for individual purchase and guests can go ice skating or play Eisstockschiessen (similar to curling).

Saturday, January 20

The main meeting will take place on Saturday at the Intercity Hotel Essen. It will be a hybrid event, so that as many members of DA Germany can participate and help us develop our plan of action for getting out the vote in 2024.

That evening, join us at The Mine for our annual fundraising dinner with a guest speaker Derek Marshall, who is running for Congress in CA-23 and was a former member of DA Germany. He will speak to us about his time as a community organizer and his work on the California Democratic campaigns of Jessica Salans (City Council) and Pat Harris (U.S. Senate). Most recently, Derek was a staffer in Nevada for Senator Bernie Sanders’ Presidential campaign in 2020.

Sunday, January 21

Head back to the Zeche Zollverein Mine (our Saturday dinner event site) for a guided tour of this historical landmark.

Members of the Germany Executive Committee will meet for a leadership meeting.

Following the tour and the leadership meeting, everyone is welcome to meet at a local restaurant for lunch before heading back home.

For in-person attendance, we are asking for a donation of $65 for the main meeting on Saturday. This includes:

  • Lunch on Saturday
  • Two coffee breaks
  • Helps cover the cost of the meeting space

Under the rules of the Democratic Party and Democrats Abroad, a fee for attending the meeting is not allowed. We ask that you donate this amount to help us avoid drawing down the DA Germany treasury, which is devoted to getting out the vote. If you are not able to make the full donation, you will still need to pay for the meals and coffee breaks.

If you plan to attend in person, please buy tickets after registering, for EITHER as a full day participant (includes covering the cost of the meeting space) OR the meals and coffee breaks.

If you are participating online, we would ask you to still consider making a donation of $24.

Tickets and donations can be made after your RSVP.

Participate in the AGM Prize Draw & Auction

Please support DAG’s AGM prize draw and silent auction with a prize donation! As we are hosting a hybrid event, both the prize draw and silent auction will take place in-person & online. Even if you are not planning on attending the AGM yourself, the prize can be mailed after the winner is determined at the event.

Check out the prizes, enter the silent auction, and get your tickets here.

Stipends for Attending

DA Germany understands the accompanying financial cost of attending the AGM, which is why we offered three stipends to enable more members to attend. The period to apply for a stipend has now passed.

Proposals for Changes to the DA Germany Bylaws

We will be voting on amendments to the Bylaws at the upcoming AGM. You can review the proposed amendments here and here, as these will be presented in two rounds of voting.
  • Green highlighting reflects proposed additions to our Bylaws.
  • Red highlighting reflects proposed deletions to existing language in the Bylaws.
  • Yellow highlighting reflects current Bylaws language that we propose changing in some manner (which may be as simple as changing case, etc)
If you have any questions, you can contact the Bylaws Committee at [email protected].

You can find a copy of the current DAG bylaws here.

Once you RSVP below, you will be directed to the donation and ticket page.
