On June 13, 2026, the nine-member Steering Committee of the Democrats Abroad Global Veterans and Military Families (VMF) Caucus unanimously passed a resolution brought forth by Anna Marie Mattson, a Steering Committee member and the Chair of Democrats Abroad France’s VMF Caucus.
As a DPCA Voting Representative from Paris who votes in Texas, Anna Marie’s resolution was originally submitted to the Resolutions Committee but was ultimately not addressed at Democrats Abroad’s 2026 Global Meeting in Nairobi due to time restrictions.
The Global VMF Caucus’ Steering Committee, VMF’s leadership team, therefore passed this resolution to honor the thirteen brave servicemembers who tragically perished in President Trump’s war with Iran. The resolution also reiterates that it is the constitutional authority of Congress — not the president — in determining when the United States shall declare war, in addition to the resolution calling upon lawmakers to take action against this administration’s leaders who needlessly put our troops and so many others in harm’s way.
The text of the Steering Committee-approved resolution is as follows:

___________
U.S. citizens living abroad, both civilian and military, are highly encouraged to check your voter registration status and request your ballot for any upcoming elections in your home voting state that you are eligible to vote in.
The VMF Caucus has a membership of over 1,500 members located in dozens of countries and proudly consists of veterans, service members, military family members, Department of Defense civilians, other national security professionals, and strong allies of veterans and military family causes.
