VMF Statement on Its Member Survey Results

From April 1, 2025, to April 15, 2025, the Democrats Abroad Global Veterans and Military Families (VMF) Caucus conducted a survey of roughly 1,300 VMF members. The purpose of the survey was for the VMF Steering Committee (the caucus’ leadership team) to better understand the composition of its full membership, and to ensure that as we move toward the 2026 midterms that VMF’s messaging aligns with the membership and what issues it cares about.

A summarized view of the results are displayed below. The survey consisted of four questions and the average response time took 1 minute, 30 seconds. The first question inquires on how our members identify in terms of military-connection, if any. The second question pertains to the participant’s branch of military affiliation, if any. The third question presents a choice of issues and whether these are of most importance to the member. And finally, the last question asks if survey participants wish to lend their time volunteering with the caucus.

Of note is that those who identify as being a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, or a military family member of one, make up the majority of VMF members. This would suggest these individuals have a vested interest with joining the VMF Caucus and advocating on issues of interest to the VMF-living-abroad community. Also of interest, the results show that none of the survey participants identified as having a Space Force Affiliation – this is likely due to the newest military branch only being a few years old as of the date of survey participation. The issue of voting rights for military and overseas voters had the highest response rate of the various issues presented.

The VMF Steering Committee will continue to analyze the data. All VMF members who wish to register a comment on the VMF Member Survey are welcomed to do so. On behalf of the VMF Steering Committee, we sincerely thank all those participants who took the survey.
