Veterans Day 2019

Dear Dems in the DA Veterans and Military Families Caucus,

Today is Veteran’s Day and we salute and honor Veterans in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

When President Eisenhower issued his first Veterans Day proclamation, he asked all Americans to

SOLEMNLY REMEMBER THE SACRIFICES OF ALL THOSE WHO FOUGHT SO VALIANTLY, ON THE SEAS,  IN THE AIR, AND ON FOREIGN SHORES, TO PRESERVE OUR HERITAGE OF FREEDOM.

Today members from Democrats Abroad France participated in the moving ceremony at the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial in France where lie buried the ashes of 51 American pilots who served in the French Air Force before the entry of the US into World War I.  It was raining and cold but that did not deter anyone from attending.

Major General Greg Semel ended his keynote speech today by saying: « Veterans, you have done your duty—to your families, to your communities and to your fallen comrades, to your country, and for the cause of humanity.  You have honorably served your nation with great distinction. And we can never say it enough-for your service in war and in peace—thank you and God bless you.  Today it is our privilege to say « thank you » to all veterans, for your quiet courage and exemplary service—to let you know we are grateful and acknowledge your many sacrifices and accomplishments.

We know that for many veterans, it is not easy to go back in time and remember.  Some experiences were traumatic and some veterans have come back scarred. We in Democrats Abroad do not forget. We think about you and we would like you to know that you are never alone… Our motto is serving those who have served.

Sincerely yours,

Steering Committee
