Describe your volunteer work with DA and cite your greatest DA accomplishment
Phone bank, (vote forward) letter writing, postcard mailing; organizing and text massage training; posting democratic messages to FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, and on my own web portal. As a social scientist, driven by past and present state of societies and the human condition, my greatest accomplishment As a Democrat Abroad, is my journey to the near East, Jerusalem Israel, where it all began. Enlightened by the chaos and division among my fellow human being. Western civilization, the Holy Land. “Democracy through unity,” what I like to think of as my personal brand as a candidate, only hope for democracy is through unity. And my individual vote. No matter how divided.
Did extensive research on DA voter organizations worldwide, and the embassies representing Americans living abroad.
Finally, on my accord, I meet with fellow Americans living abroad and persuaded them vote the democratic (2020) primary elections ticket up and down the ballot.
Why are you running for this office?
First as a civic duty to bring my unique, never before elected to a public voice, as chair, to Democrats Abroad, as an African American candidate. Second to persuade unity within; then educate and persuade, as a united front, message of unity among all voting members living abroad.
I believe in President Biden’s message of unity, even if members of his house and senate act like they don’t want unity, must be forced upon them through the message for the common good benefit. Who would how to better the concept of unity than the White Vice President of an African American President?
Likewise, as a target of systemic, powerful opposition to individuality and a product of functionalist ideologies, who’s better suited to bring people together in solidarity with a common interest, sense about our mutual problem? Support for each other in the common goal of survival; than one well versed, exposed to sociology, social psychology, anthropology, and political science; with a cynical view, changed to hope for humanity, than myself?
Last, but not least, personal endeavor. An experiment, if I may, to test the possibility of unity among Americans living abroad through amplifying messages of our democratic leaders in Washington.
How will your skill sets and experience contribute to DA's success?
My volunteer work with Peace Corps, political organizations; advanced academic exposure and keen interest in the social sciences gives me a skill set idea for focuses on the practice of government and politics at the local, state, national, and international levels; dedicated to improving institutions, practices, and relations that constitute public life and modes of inquiry that promote citizenship. Especially voting and political science. Skill sets in anthropology, social psychology, sociology, makes for understanding various groups and societies in which people strive to survive and live, more important than ever during a pandemic. Together, not avoiding but engaging concerns people care about, giving them an empathic voice to root out, crucial multipurpose solutions.
Are there any DA organizational or practical issues (not political goals) that you would like to address should you be elected?
Across-the-board inclusivity. Disenfranchisement and being left in the dark about rights, availability, confusion of new processes and resources, spell the essence of noninvolvement in American politics; and is disastrous to gauging sentiment. Personal engagement versus the mainstream media, social platforms. Not an easy or simple undertaking, but it is imperative that a semblance of personal engagement be developed to gain trust of American voters abroad. Then there is, as has always been, uninformed distinctions, which involve various difference in opposing views about government and the American political system. That must be addressed, if there is to be any reasonable participation in political processes. In that people want to be involved by trusting their voices are heard, and their positions are addressed by reason. That there is unity within government, between voters living abroad, their American peers, and their individual concerns and needs. As asserted, not in easy or simple undertaking.
How can Democrats Abroad best raise our profile among American voters abroad and better work to elect Democrats?
As previously discerned, with caveats, unity, everybody being on the same page, though not necessarily at the same time; and trust, that no one individual will be left behind, participation by being heard; through easily assessable resources that offers the semblance of personalized engagement, an ear to individual needs and families. Pres. Joseph Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris, understand signs of the time. The unity between them, the House and Senate, and even opposing members of the other party, sets an example of probable impossibilities. Economic stimulus, other entitlements make the task of Democrats abroad leaders job a lot more easy; everybody reacts, with mixed positivity’s, to resources that make their lives easy; yet, still, virtually impossible to bring everybody on the same page, at the same time, to the table of inclusion. All the more reason to test the unexplored waters for what might work.
