GWC July 2021 Newsletter

Letter from the Editor

Our bodies, our rights! This month, we celebrate women’s independent choices and freedoms. Women all over the world are largely dependent on the decisions of a few, and much of the time those few do not have women’s interests and rights in mind. Consider joining our caucus as we fight the good fight, not only for our sisters and daughters, but for our brothers and sons as well. The Global Women’s Caucus has many ways for you to join: 1. Register to vote 2. Become a GWC member 3. Volunteer with one of our action teams 4. Start a local caucus. We welcome and look forward to working with you!

Scroll down for important updates on our growing caucus, insightful articles on our research, and the June Newsletter quiz! Don’t forget to check out our Artist’s Corner. Lastly, we would love your participation in our #MyStoryGWC campaign, where you can connect with other members through shared stories to highlight the issues most important to us.

The Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative had a successful forum with guest speaker, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and a panel of experts talking about the impacts of our current state on women. Did you miss it? Check our Youtube page for the recording coming soon.

The Violence Against Women action team is working to address military assault. Representatives Jackie Speier (D-CA) and Michael Turner (R-OH) are introducing the Vanessa Guillén Military Justice Improvement and Increasing Prevention Act, the companion bill for Senator Gillibrand’s Military Justice Improvement and Increasing Prevention Act (MJIIPA). Contact Senators Reed and Inhofe to tell them to stop holding up this legislation.

The Global Women’s Caucus works hard to fight the good fight 365 days a year, but sometimes our volunteers need a break to refuel for the challenges that lay ahead. For this reason, the GWC Newsletter is suspended for August and will resume for September. Continue to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates, and check our website as we prepare for some not-to-miss events and important actions!

ERA STORY

“Having women in Congress, as the Vice-President, and in other positions of "power" is a hollow victory if the average woman faces legal discrimination in so many areas of her life. My mother, my sisters, and I have been waiting all our lives for equality under the law. There is no reason for us to keep us waiting. Equality must be enshrined in our Constitution.” -- Germany Resident, Florida Voter
