  • Interview with former Congressman Bart Stupak (MI-1)

North & Central Bavaria Chapter Chair Wayne Lempke will interview the former Democratic congressman from Michigan's 1st District, Bart Stupak. Stupak represented this vast rural district as a moderate Democrat from 1993-2011 and was instrumental in forging a compromise for passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), often referred to as Obamacare. Stupak is the author of For All Americans: The Dramatic Story Behind the Stupak Amendment and the Historic Passage of Obamacare

In addition to learning about Stupak's role in getting the ACA passed and other achievements of his 18 years in Congress, Lempke and Stupak will discuss the shift of this rural Michigan district, which Stupak once won by 40 points, to a district which Trump carried by 20 points. We hope to gain insight into what Democrats can do to win back these rural districts.

This event is presented in cooperation with the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut in Nürnberg and the American Chamber of Commerce in Germany.

  • Gender Equality: Unleashing Women's Full Potential

Professor Linda Scott will join us April 13th @ 12pm EST/6pmCET

To discuss the research behind the findings in her recently-published book:

“The Double X Economy: The Epic Potential of Empowering Women."

Internationally renowned expert on women's economic development and Emeritus DP World Professor for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Oxford.  Professor Linda Scott will join us to discuss the research behind the findings in her recently-published book: “The Double X Economy: The Epic Potential of Empowering Women.” Her analysis of international gender data shows the reality of a distinctive pattern of economic inequality which, when combined with cultural impediments, forms the shadow economy unique to women, the “Double X Economy.” To quote Melinda Gates:

“Linda Scott shines a light on women's essential and often invisible contributions to our global economy--while combining insight, analysis, and interdisciplinary data to make a compelling and actionable case for unleashing women's economic power." --Melinda Gates, author of The Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World

Linda gives us a powerful argument going forward: “…equal economic treatment for women would put a stop to some of the world’s costliest evils, while building prosperity for everyone.”  And she is looking to recruit everyone to the cause of women’s economic inclusion!

  • Legislative Pulse: Using Billtrack50 to Follow Legislation

On Sunday the 11th of April Karen Suhaka of the DAUK West Midlands Regional Group will share how to take action on the political issues you care about most.

Join us to hear directly from Karen, founder and catalyst of Billtrack50, who’s worked on American legislative state and federal data management for many years.  She has been most generous in giving DA a free subscription to billtrack50.com to research our key policy areas and develop plans to reach legislators and make policy become a reality.

Karen will walk through the basic steps as a bill goes through to become law, talk about how bills are numbered to help you figure who to call, when states are in session so you know when you can call, provide resources to look up who your representatives and their staff are, and help you figure out what’s the best action to take.

This event is sponsored by the  Hispanic, Asian American & Pacific Islander, Global Black, LGBTQ+, ProDA, Veterans & Military Families Caucuses, the Taxation Task Force, and the Texans Abroad Squad. All members of DA are invited to join our caucuses, taskforces, and teams and attend our events.

    Kendra Borgen's 2021 Birthday Fundraiser

Having volunteered in politics since I was a teenager I have found a wonderful home within Democrats Abroad – an all volunteer organization.

We run on blood, sweat, tears, & donations!

During my time in Democrats Abroad leadership I’ve noticed how expensive it is to be involved. Going to regional and global meetings is fundamental in getting good work done and is important and instrumental in team building. However, it comes at each individual’s own expense.

I believe everyone should be able to volunteer at the highest level and want to help keep these meetings accessible to people, who may not be as financially flexible, by fundraising for Democrats Abroad Travel Fund.

I had hoped to spend my 40th Birthday in an exotic location but luckily I’m in Amsterdam and you can help me celebrate my 40th birthday virtually. Please help me reach my fundraising goal: $2021 in 2021

Got $40 for my 40th? – Or even $4, or $400 if you’re so inclined –  hit that donate button.

    KB_DA.jpg

I cannot wait until we can celebrate in person together again.

    Thanks in advance!!!

    Candice Kerestan's 2021 Birthday Fundraiser

    Candice-Kerestan-DAG2020.3c.jpg

As many of you know, Democrats Abroad has been a big part of my life since I moved to Germany seven(!) years ago, and it’s remarkable what the organization has accomplished in that time! This past election cycle, we engaged Americans abroad like never before and delivered decisive votes in races across the United States.

But as they say, “after the election is before the election”, and it’s important to me that we continue setting up Democrats for success in 2022. As I start this next year of my life, I invite you to join me in making a contribution to Democrats Abroad, an organization near and dear to me.

D4D_Ballot_Week.pngDialing for Democracy is a calling marathon
    and global Democrats Abroad fundraiser.

To win in November, we need to increase voter participation from abroad, which means making sure that overseas voters receive their ballots by September 19 (date mandated by federal law) and that they are sent back to the United States on time.

Given the Trump Administration's relentless attempts to weaken a fundamental pillar of our democracy — voting — we can't take any risks this year when it comes to our ballots. [Mobile device users, please scroll down to donate!]

Generous sponsors like yourself will help Democrats Abroad reach all members from September 22-24, shortly after ballots have been sent, to confirm that they've received theirs, and inform them on how to promptly return them to their respective voting jurisdictions.

DONORS: If you are sponsoring a specific caller, BEFORE you select an amount, write the caller's name in the box at left!

    Donate $50 and you’re sponsoring 200 calls!

Democrats Abroad will be making 100,000s of calls this fall, and your contribution will help make this outreach possible.

    Global Pub Quiz Fun(draiser)

    Online-DAGlobalPubQuiz-NL.jpeg

We're looking forward to meeting your team -- or matching you with other Democrats around the world.

For each round we'll send out a google form for you to fill in the answers. Volunteers will grade each round and the winning team(s) will receive never-ending fame and fortune.*

Ninety percent of the funds raised from this event will go directly to GOTV. Did you know that just $5 USD can reach 125 voters?

The other ten percent will go to DA's travel fund. As a young-ish volunteer without disposable income I can tell you the #1 issue with getting involved at a higher level of commitment is being unable to afford to travel to the regional and global meetings. It's important to show up in person as it helps build relationships we need to keep up the good work. We want to have a big tent party and that perhaps means helping our younger or income-sensitive volunteers to be part of the organization.

Date: Saturday May 30th  |  Where: RSVP for ZOOM link!
Quiz Start: 7:30pm (CEST / Paris time)

For any questions about Democrats Abroad Pub Quiz, please contact DANL's Andrew Tucker: [email protected]
