The annual general meeting of Democrats Abroad (DA) Sweden is coming up soon: 29 March. It is time to elect positions on the executive committee. See the list of positions below. All persons on the executive committee serve on a purely volunteer basis for a two-year term.
Thanks to our talented and dedicated team, Democrats Abroad Sweden consistently performs among the top DA countries. You’ll be a key part of our efforts here in Sweden and can get involved in shaping Democratic politics at the global level. You will have the opportunity to connect with other Americans across the country. Being a member of this leadership team is incredibly rewarding; you’ll be part of a vibrant, inclusive, global community of Democrats.
The annual general meeting will be hybrid, held both in Malmö and online on Saturday, 29 March 1:30pm-5:30pm. The election will be conducted via electronic vote before the meeting, and the results will be announced at our meeting.
The positions on the executive committee are the following:
· Chair
· Vice Chair
· Secretary
· Treasurer
· Counsel
· 3-4 Democratic Party Committee Abroad (DPCA) Voting Representative (depending on number allotted)*
· 2 Alternate DPCA Representatives
*Note that DPCA Voting Representative positions can be held concurrently with other positions on the Sweden Executive Committee, except the Chair, Vice Chair and Alternate DPCA Representative positions.
Each position, except the DPCA Voting Representative position, is a two-year term and leaders can serve two terms consecutively. DPCA Voting Representative positions have two year-terms but are not term-limited.
Eligibility criteria:
Candidates must be verified members of Democrats Abroad Sweden. Because the Chair and Vice Chair, DPCA Voting Representatives and their alternates are members of the executive committee with voting rights at the global DA level, there must be a gender balance in representatives across these positions.
If nominated by someone other than oneself, candidates must confirm their willingness to serve.
Nominations for office must be made in writing via email.
All nominations must be submitted at the latest by midnight on Saturday, 22 February (35 days before the election). Send nominations by email to [email protected].
Nominations must include the following:
· Name
· Gender identity
· Short biography (max. 150 words)
· Statement of candidacy (max. 200 words)
Candidates for DPCA Voting Representative positions must include an acknowledgement of their commitment to participate and cast votes in Democrats Abroad meetings.
After candidates are announced, they will have the opportunity to present themselves via a short video message posted on our website OR at a digital meet-the-candidates event.
