2021 Montreal Board Candidate Statements

The Nominations and Elections Committee received the following candidate statements from Randi Weitzner for Chair and Debra Lazar for Secretary. These two names will appear on the ballot when distributed on March 15. There were no nominations submitted for Vice Chair and Treasurer. If you are interested in being considered for these spots, the NEC will be receiving names by floor nomination at the AGM on March 30.

Randi Weitzner: Chair

It has been my privilege to serve as Chapter chair for the last two years. I only joined DA two and half years ago, so it has been a steep learning curve, but I am pleased with the progress our board has made in this chapter. I have done a lot of personal outreach to members and have gotten to know many of you. I have enjoyed the events the chapter has held and the enthusiasm of the members who attended.

I have worked hard to engage members, even with the Covid restrictions, and am impressed with how many of our Montreal members participated in phone banking and other GOTV efforts. We did an excellent job getting out the vote in 2020.

I have lots of ideas for member engagement and a whole host of plans to implement around the 2022 midterms. I do hope that you will consider voting for me for Chair.

Debra Lazar: Secretary

For the last two years, I have had the pleasure of serving with Randi Weitzner, Gib Primeau and Brent Jamsa as Secretary of DA Montreal. The past year has seen a lot of challenges, but under Randi’s stewardship, we have kept our members engaged, involved and informed. The five years I served as Secretary on the board of a literary council have more than prepared me for the unique needs of an Executive. I look forward to two more years of supporting this incredible team.
