1. PREPARING FOR 2024

Democrats Abroad Australia is gearing up now for an enormous 2024 of Get Out The Vote (“GOTV”) actions and initiatives.

DA Australia is building up!

There are many ways to become involved in our local chapters or our Australia national volunteer team.  We still have many roles to fill: voter assistance; social media; press; local chapter organising; and more.  Click here for more information.

If you have, or think you might have, an interest in joining the DA Australia volunteer corps please have a look at our Volunteer Jobs Notice Board.  Positions vacant in our local chapters, in our administrative areas and in our Get Out The Vote teams are listed there.

Spotlight on Vacant DA Australia Positions - DA Australia Facebook Administrator

This month we spotlight the role of DA Australia Facebook Administrator.  If you love posting on Facebook, are interested in supporting the work of Democrats Abroad in Australia and around the world, can work within a framework of organisational posting protocols, and have 1 to 10 hours per week to donate, please have a look at the role of DA Australia Facebook Administrator on the Administration tab of the Volunteer Jobs Notice Board and email us to discuss.  There will be roles for a number of volunteers who will take shifts through the week and share the work of posting to our page.

Study Abroad U.S. Student Outreach

DA volunteers will be reaching out, on a non-partisan basis, to U.S. Study Abroad students coming to Australia for the August to November 2024 term to help them vote from abroad.  Votefromabroad.org is a non-partisan voter registration and ballot request system that has no partisan messaging.  It is, therefore, perfect for outreach to study abroad students.  Student veterans and other GI Bill beneficiaries studying or planning to study at an Australia university are also encouraged to use votefromabroad.org.

We are building a team of volunteers to reach out to the Student Life Directors of Australia study abroad programs in January and February.

Please contact us at info-australia@democratsabroad.org if you can help connect us to study abroad programs that bring U.S. university students to study in Australia.

AP ACE the Race ‘24 - online retreat for DA Volunteers in the Asia Pacific

Democrats Abroad leaders in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region are joining together this weekend (November 4 and 5) for an online retreat entitled Asia Pacific ACE the Race ‘24 during which we will be building skills and setting up our GOTV infrastructure to win big next year.  All are welcome!

Democrats Abroad at the Chicago Democratic National Convention

Democrats Abroad will send a delegation to the 2024 Democratic National Convention happening in Chicago August 19 to 24.  All members are eligible to become a delegate.  Democrats Abroad is hosting online Delegate Information Sessions on Friday November 10th.  The session happening at a time convenient for DA members in Australia takes place at 6pm Australian Eastern Summer Time.

Click here for more information or go directly here to register for the Information Session on November 10th.

2. VOTER ASSISTANCE

We will be helping Americans in Australia to vote both in person and online from January 1st!  We recommend all Americans abroad who want to vote in 2024 prepare a ballot request form as soon as possible after January 1st by going to votefromabroad.org.  DA members will get many reminders to do so, but we will also be reaching out to Americans not in our membership so they have the information they need to vote next year.

You can help!  Training is happening NOW!

Click here for more information about how you can help Americans vote from abroad.

4. WARNING TO AMERICANS FROM THE U.S. MISSION TO AUSTRALIA

Please see this message from the U.S.Mission to Australia advising Americans living abroad to exercise increased caution due to tensions in various places around the world.  The message also includes a link for U.S. citizens to sign up for the U.S. State Dept warden’s list (formally known as the Smart Traveller Enrollment Program or S.T.E.P.) to receive messages from the DOS directly.

5. DA AUSTRALIA VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

CONGRATULATIONS to Amy Saha, member of the NSW Local Chapter and DA Australia Twitter/X administrator, on being named DA Australia Volunteer of the Month.

Click here to learn more about Amy.

6. JOIN US TO PHONE BANK IN 6 KEY STATES

We are a week away from the November 7 elections, and as an American abroad you can make a real difference!

The most effective way to do this is by phone banking. You can make calls from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection and a headset. You don’t need to be a voter in the state you call.

We have partnered with our Sister Democratic Parties in six key states: Kentucky, Ohio, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Virginia. They have asked for our support to reach Democratic voters and urge them to vote.
