June 2022 - Greetings, US Citizen Overseas Voters in Frankfurt & Greater Hessen!

Friend --

May turned into our Party Month!

For those of you unable to attend the April 29 Open House featuring the now infamous keg of wonderful and super sustainable white wine from www.ebbflowkeg.com/ (part owned by member Deandra) you missed a nice party. But there will be more as we gear up for the midterms!

And we had a lovely garden party with our PA Voters. And, if there are any other PA voters out there, the message is: PLEASE VOTE!  as our democracy many really hinge on you doing that (unfortunately, not really kidding). Any questions about voting, just email us at [email protected].

And thanks to the Mid-Hessen members, we had a lovely event at the lovely restaurant at the lovely Golf-Park Winnerod in Reiskirchen. As always, we so appreciated our members Spike Richardson and Herb Ruffin for contributing their musical talents and Clarence Moore for hosting us at the club. There is no better feeling than to get registered, cross that off your to-do list, and know your voice will be empowered by your vote.

Celebrate the 4th of July!

The Frankfurt, Heidelberg, and Wiesbaden-Mainz Chapters have come together for a star-spangled 4th of July celebration!

It’s a great opportunity to meet other Americans. Feel free to bring along any Americans or friends who would be interested in seeing what July 4th is all about (minus the fireworks of course).

🎉 We’ll celebrate in true American style and look forward to seeing you there. We're providing the meat (hot dogs, bratwurst, ribs, hamburgers, and vegan "meats"), American hot and hamburger buns, soft drinks and water, ice, real glasses, plates, and silverware.

🍺 Beer, 🍷 Wine, and 🍹cocktails will be available and are extra.

👕 Democrats Abroad merchandise will also be available.

🗳️ If you need help getting registered to vote, you can get help with that during the event.

What to bring: Please bring a side dish or a dessert. 🍉 Use the sign-up sheet so we don't get too many of the same types of foods.  You can find the sign-up sheet here.

🏐 Bring your games!

To celebrate our democratic heritage, we will read portions of the Declaration of Independence, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Equal Rights Amendment.

Space is limited, we can only accommodate 100 people. RSVP early to ensure your place. RSVP deadline is 26 June. Please RSVP to Angela Fobbs · wiesbaden-mainz@democratsabroad.de

In case of rain, the picnic area is sheltered.

This is a 3G event. 3G means: access or participation only for those who have been vaccinated, have recovered, or have been recently tested. Official proof of a rapid test no more than 24 hours ago or a PCR test no more than 48 hours ago was required for those who were tested.

How to get to Grillhütte Eppelheim | Driving Directions

We will arrange carpools from Frankfurt, Mainz, and Wiesbaden, the Heidelberg areas. You'll receive a sign-up form after you RSVP.

Take public transportation to Heidelberg Bahnhof and we will have people that can pick you up at the train station.

Frankfurt CSD/Pride 2022

More information | RSVP to the event

June is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBTQ) Pride Month to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots and work to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for the LGBTQ community. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City staged an uprising to resist the police harassment, and persecution LGBT Americans were commonly subjected to. This uprising marks the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBT Americans. 2022 marks the 53rd anniversary of the June 1969 Stonewall Riots. This year is also the 30th Anniversary of Christopher Street Day (CSD) Frankfurt.

The Frankfurt Chapter and the Wiesbaden-Mainz Chapter will be setting up an information stand for the duration of the event and walking in the CSD Parade on Saturday to show our support.

Come help us find Americans living overseas and get them to help us with next year's voting efforts! We'll need help on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday times to be determined. We will also need people to walk in the parade.

Please RSVP to the event if you’re interested in attending, and you will receive the link to the signup sheet. Join Democrats Abroad on Saturday, 17 July, as we take to the streets to celebrate love and pride!

Phonebanking Trainings

Phonebanking is one of the most effective ways that we use to reach out to voters to make sure that they are registered to vote and have requested their ballots. We have to do all that we can to make sure that WE WIN in November! To help us get out the vote, we are calling members in Germany to remind them to request their ballots for November. For this important endeavor, we need YOUR help.

If you have never participating in phonebanking, then join the Democrats Abroad Germany Phonebanking Coordinator for this training session.

Learn or review the why, how, where and when of phonebanking. We'll explain the sign-up system, explore CallHub and do a few demo calls.

Pennsylvanians Abroad Planning Meeting

Wednesday, June 15th, 18:00

Our DA Pennsylvania State Team works on behalf of overseas Pennsylvania voters—both the 35,000 who registered to vote in the 2020 election, and the many more yet to be engaged. We are dedicated to getting out the vote and growing the number of overseas Pennsylvania voters to maximize turnout in the midterm and beyond. We know that in a close race, our votes can be the margin of victory that elects Democrats. This year, we want to make that margin bigger than ever.

We offer PA voters a range of support services, including voter assistance and events designed to bring Pennsylvanians living abroad closer to the leaders who represent them. If you are interested in helping with these efforts, write to [email protected] to learn more. All are welcome, regardless of where they vote or how much time they can commit.

Ohio State Team Meetings

Join us for our weekly meeting to learn more and get involved in this and future events to help mobilize Ohio voters abroad for critical races this fall and make sure our officials back home understand the challenges facing Ohio voters abroad.

The 2022 Midterms are quickly approaching, and we want to make sure we send back every possible overseas vote that we can! Join Ohioans Abroad to discuss our path to the November Elections.

We'll be looking at several different areas, including:

  • Spreading the word about the fantastic nominees for Congressional, Statewide, and Local offices!
  • Providing state-specific voter assistance
  • Mobilizing the voters at home and abroad
  • Event planning
  • Website - posting news updates
  • Social Media voter mobilization

It's all hand on deck to turn Ohio BLUE! Write to [email protected] with any questions.
