Democrats Abroad Heads to D.C.

More than one hundred Democratic leaders from around the world will be converging on D.C. this weekend. Representing the Democratic Party abroad, we are flying in from Ecuador, Hong Kong, the Ukraine and many points in between to elect new leadership, prepare for the 2018 midterms and fine tune our outreach strategy to help engage the millions of Americans living abroad in the US elections next year.

We will also use the time to door knock Capitol Hill, visiting senators and representatives to talk with them about the issues that most affect Americans abroad. Five of the top points we will be discussing are:

  • Overseas Voting Rights, especially for US citizen children born abroad

  • RBT (Residence Based Taxation)

  • FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act)

  • Maintaining/refunding the Election Assistance Commission, and for local election officials to keep overseas voting records and make them publicly available

  • State Department budget cuts (funding for American Citizen Services, education exchange, USAID)

Keep an eye on this space and on our facebook and twitter feeds - we'll be posting frequently in the next few days across all of our channels!
