Volunteers & Interns Needed!

The only way we can keep the White House and Senate, and flip the Congress is by getting all Americans in Austria to register, request, and return their ballot for the November election. It’s all hands on board and we need your help! We have lots of interesting opportunities for you to help with wherever you may be located in Austria and however much time you have to give. Democrats Abroad provides the margin of victory in close races up and down the ballot. In 2020 we sent home the votes that helped win the election in Georgia and Arizona for President Biden.

Below are a few requests our teams have:

Your Network: Are you a member of a school, church, business, social club, or sports team frequented by Americans? One of our biggest challenges is reaching the thousands of US citizens living in Austria who are eligible to vote but don't. According to the Federal Voter Assistance Program, of the estimated 12,730 Americans who could vote in 2022 only 2,482 requested a ballot and only 7.4% returned it.

You read that right, only 7.4% of Americans in Austria voted.

Your personal friends, work, and social network could help us double that number in 2024. Ask us how you can help spread the word to help get ballots in the box!
Time commitment: no minimum required.

Phonebanking: Making calls to potential voters abroad is one of the most important volunteer jobs you can do! Most Americans abroad aren't called in an election even once (those back home are called hundreds of times). This is the job for you if you have a good internet connection and are looking for a way to help win blue up and down the ballot. We know this election is going to be a challenge — calling our members is the most effective way of getting out the vote!
Time commitment: no minimum required. You set your own hours to call.

Voter registration events and outreach: Voter registration tabling is a big part of how we also reach Americans who aren't DA members. It’s one of our best ways to personally reach out to US citizens to help them figure out what they need to do to vote from abroad. We'll be setting up tables in the late Spring and early Fall. The team needs a co-coordinator as well as volunteers to help at events both in Vienna and in other cities in Austria.
Time commitment Co-coordinator minimum 1-2 hours per week during Spring/Fall 2024. Voter Registration Volunteer no minimum required.

Outreach Coordinators: The study abroad outreach team is looking for volunteers to help with contacting (by phone and email) study abroad programs and coordinating outreach to students leading up to the elections. We especially need people outside of Vienna who can contact local programs!
Time commitment: minimum 1-2 hours per week during elections.

Press Co-coordinator: Are you a journalist or have experience in communications? Are you fluent in German and English? We are looking for someone to help coordinate our media outreach and press contacts.
Time commitment:  minimum 1-2 hours per week especially during elections.

Not seeing the role you have in mind? Please get in touch, your ideas are what we need! Take a look at the full description of volunteer roles here

Whether you are used to working in a virtual environment or in person — if you are a good team player, these are great roles for you. For more information about any of these volunteer opportunities, please contact Richard at [email protected]

Only together with all of our efforts will we succeed. Thank you for being a part of our team!
