Call for Nominations for the 2023 Kansai Chapter Elections

It’s time for DAJ Kansai chapter bi-annual officer elections!

Announcement of 2023 Democrats Abroad Japan Kansai Election

The 2023 Nomination and Election Committee (NEC) of Democrats Abroad Japan (DAJ) Kansai Chapter is proud to call upon our membership to submit their nominations for the 2023 DAJ Kansai Chapter Election. The call for nominations is for the following positions:

  • Kansai Chapter Officer positions
    • Chair (Volunteer Lead, Raises New Leaders)
    • Vice-Chair (Serves as Chair in their absence; Supports the Team)
    • Secretary (Manages/maintains membership database; Technical and Precise)
    • Treasurer (Manages the Kansai finances, maintains transparency and records)

If you are interested in holding an officer position, you must fulfill the following requirements in order to qualify:

  • Be a member in good standing pursuant Article III of the By-Laws of Democrats Abroad Japan. You can confirm your membership by signing into DemocratsAbroad.org.
  • Not be completing a 2nd consecutive term for the office in question, as per the term limits set out in our by-laws pursuant to Article X, Section 1: “No National, or Chapter Officer, nor any Members-at-Large can serve more than two (2) consecutive terms in the same position.”
  • In the case of running for Chair or Vice Chair, pursuant to Article V, Section 1, “The Chair and Vice Chair shall not be of the same sex.”

Nomination Procedure

In order to join the election process, members may nominate themselves or another member by sending an e-mail to [email protected] no later than 11:59pm Japan time on Friday, March 31st, 2023.  All nomination emails should include the following:

  1. Complete name of the person nominated.
  2. Contact information including phone number and email address.
  3. Name of the nominated position.



Timeline-

  • Feb 15- March 31st- Nomination Period
  • April 1- April 14th- Vetting Period
  • April 15th Annual General Meeting, Meet the Candidates 
  • April 15th-May 15th Voting Period

Anyone considering running for office is encouraged to join a Chat with the Chair (National Chair Sarajean Rossitto) on Monday 2/27 and/or Monday 3/27 from 8-9 PM.  The National Nominations and Elections Committee will also be holding a potential candidate Q&A session on March 11th at 10am, but potential candidates from all regions are welcome.  Please see the DAJ calendar for links: DAJ calendar

Primary Voting Center 2020

The polls are open! And if you live near one of our population centers, you can come cast your Democrats Abroad Presidential Primary vote in person!

Primary Voters must meet the following criteria to vote!

    • Reside abroad and be a U.S. Citizen

    • Be a member of Democrats Abroad

    • Be 18 as of November 3, 2020

    • Not have voted, or plan to vote, in any other 2020 state presidential primary (you can still vote down ballot for US Senate, House, etc).

from Yotsubashi Station
Leave Yotsubashi Stations, Exit #4 walk away from Yotsubashi-suji (the big boulevard). There is a FamilyMart on the lefthand corner. Turn right at that corner. Sauce Boss is on the right, on the second block.

from Shinsaibashi Station
Leave from Exit 7, head away from Mido-suji boulevard down a narrow, one-way street. Hotel Unizo Osaka Shinsaibashi is on the right on the second block. Cross under the Hanshin Freeway, #1, proceed one more block and cross the Yotsubashi-suji Boulevard. Cycle Base Asahi is on the right hand corner. Turn Right at the next corner. Sauce boss is in the middle of the block.

March 8th Global Primary Fast Appraching

DAJ 2019 Kansai Chapter Election Results

Dear DAJ Kansai membership,

The 2019 Kansai Nomination and Election Committee (KNEC) is pleased to announce the results of the 2019 Kansai Chapter election. Votes in the 2019 Kansai Chapter election were counted on September 15th and recorded by the KNEC as follows:

Total ballots cast: 4 (completed and confirmed membership)

Chair:

  • Kevin Lane - 4 votes, 100% of total votes (WINNER)

Vice-Chair

  • Margaret Tomoko Brennan - 4 votes, 100% of total votes (WINNER)

Secretary

  • Steven Breyak - 4 votes, 100% of total votes (WINNER)

Treasurer

  • Raymond Kunikane Terhune - 4 votes, 100% of total votes (WINNER)

Thank you to everyone who ran as a candidate and voted in this election. For future elections, the KNEC would like to see more active campaigning to reach at least 20 voters. However, due to the circumstances of this election, we understand the depressed turnout.

Voting for the 2019 Kansai Chapter Election for chapter officer positions has opened (as of September 1st, 2019).
