About the Webinars
Democrats Abroad is now a group member of State Department Federal Credit Union (SDFCU), providing eligible Democrats Abroad members with a pathway to apply for SDFCU membership. SDFCU is a U.S.-based federal credit union with extensive experience serving members who live and work around the world.
Democrats Abroad is now the first and only American abroad organization that is both free to join and free to open a U.S. bank account with SDFCU. If you are not yet a Democrats Abroad member, you can join for free by clicking here.
This webinar is for Democrats abroad members who:
- Have had difficulty opening or keeping a U.S. bank account because they live overseas
- Want a U.S. checking or savings account that can accommodate an international address and phone number
- Need an easier way to move money between the United States and the country where they live
- Want access to a U.S. debit or credit card while living abroad
- Want to understand how they are eligible to join SDFCU through Democrats Abroad
- Already have U.S. banking arrangements but want to know what other options are available
- Want to learn about options available for family members
The webinar will cover:
Opening and maintaining a U.S. account from abroad
- How Democrats Abroad members may qualify to apply for SDFCU membership
- Using a foreign residential address and international phone number
- Checking and savings account options available to members
Managing your money internationally
- How to access and manage your accounts from overseas
- Moving money between your U.S. account and accounts in other countries
- International transfers through SDFCU’s integrated Wise service
- Sending money in multiple currencies and making international payments
- Using debit cards, digital wallets, and other banking services while abroad
Other services including
- SDFCU credit card options with no foreign transaction fees
- U.S.-based retirement and investing services
- U.S.-based mortgage or car loans
- Adding non-U.S. citizen family members to accounts or as beneficiaries
There will be a live FAQ to ask SDFCU representatives questions about banking from abroad and the products and services available to eligible members.
Attendees are asked to please pre-submit any questions you have using this form by Monday, September 7. The more questions we get in advance, the better we can prepare and shape the program around the things you want to learn about the most!
If you would like to attend this webinar but are unable to join at this time, we are running the same webinar earlier in the day at 3am EDT. Register for the first session by clicking here.
