First Thursday: You are not American, Citizenship Stripping from Dred Scott to the Dreamers

Most Americans firmly believe in the promise of birthright citizenship, as enshrined in the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment. The loss of citizenship over the past two centuries has been reflected in many of the United States’ most gripping political struggles—over slavery, women’s suffrage, communism, immigration and world wars.

Come join us on April 1st at 6:30 pm for our First Thursday and brush up on your knowledge (or lack of) concerning the 14th Amendment and the legal ins-and-outs of US citizenship.

Our honored guest speaker is Amanda Frost*, Professor of Law & Government, who will be discussing her book, “You Are Not American: Citizenship Stripping From Dred Scott to the Dreamers”. Questions are welcomed!

Amanda's book can be purchased on (hardback or Kindle) or ordered locally from Damn Fine Bookstore (20 rue Béchevelin, Lyon 7th district).
