Sallie Mae Not: Film and Panel Discussion about Student Debt Crisis in America

Benjamin Franklin said that “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”  Ask anyone how to achieve the American dream of upward mobility and they'll tell you "get a good education".  BUT….

College tuitions at many American universities have more than doubled over the last 10 years.  Sallie Mae, the largest provider of student loans, is now a private for-profit enterprise with predatory loan practices. Standard consumer protections have been removed from student loans so that car loans are now safer than educational loans.  Student loan debt puts life-long pressure on millions of student families and threatens American economic growth.

Alan Collinge and Mike Camoin will show excerpts from their new documentary film Sallie Mae Not followed by Q&A.  Alan is an evangelist for Student Loan Justice.  He has written the book The Student Loan Scam, been interviewed by 60 Minutes and Rolling Stone magazine and formed the grass roots organization Student Loan Justice.  Alan has teamed up with Mike to create this first in a series of documentary films about the student debt crisis.
