DA Discussions: Taking back the White House in 2020

DA Discussion is back! This month our theme is:

    Suggested Readings:

    2. Conservatives say Democrats should adopt centrist policies if they want to win back Trump voters. But there's a much more effective way for them to defeat Trump by Grace Panetta

    3. Are our Parties Re-aligning? by David Brady and Bruce Cain

    4. 2020 and the Democrats’ Theory of Change by Paul Starr

    5. The Democrats’ Coaltion Could Fundamentally Change by 2020 by Ron Brownstein

    6. Bernie Sanders is Challenging Two Cherished Theories of Electability by Ezra Klein

    7. There is Hard Evidence that a Centrist Democrat Would be a Losing Candidate by Keith Spencer

    About DA Discussions:

We examine various facets of democracy in group discussions facilitated by political scientist Michael Contarino, Professor Emeritus at the University of New Hampshire.

Contarino founded and directed the Politics and Society program at UNH-Manchester, the UNH-in-Italy program, and the UNH-Manchester Florence program at Palazzo Rucellai. He has taught World Politics, US and World Affairs, International Relations Theory, Politics and Society, Dictatoriship and Democracy, Politics and Propaganda in Film, The Politics of Food, and Business, Government, and Society, among other topics. You can read his full bio here.

Each event will cover a different topic and offer complementary readings. The readings are intended to provide insight into the topic at hand but are completely optional.

    All are welcome!

    Basel Global Primary Team Meeting

As an official part of the Democratic National Congress, DA is hosting a global primary as part of the Democratic Party’s 2020 Presidential Primary. During the global primary, DA members vote for our preferred presidential primary candidate, and then delegates from DA will go to the DNC to cast their votes for the candidate we select. It’s an exciting opportunity to make our voices heard as Americans living abroad directly, and we need your help to organize it!

If you're interested, come to our first information and planning meeting at Klara. We need volunteers to help in several areas, including: publicity and media relations (German-speakers particularly welcome!), poll workers, voter registration volunteers, and official vote counters. Interested but can't attend? Contact Tory Mallett, Basel City Chapter Chair, at basel@democrats.ch
