This weekend, in the town of Seneca Falls, New York, widely recognized as the birthplace of American feminism, we honor two significant anniversaries. We commemorate the 175th anniversary of the first women's rights convention and the 100th anniversary of introducing the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). Statement on SCOTUS Affirmative Action Decision 2023
On June 29, 2023, the United States Supreme Court struck down race-conscious admissions policies at U.S. universities. Driven by a conservative supermajority, the Supreme Court overturned decades of precedent to deal a devastating blow to diversity on our college campuses.
Race-based affirmative action is a long-standing mechanism to address social inequities and discrimination against people of color. The ruling in the cases against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina not only impacts students and communities of color directly. It robs America of future generations of business, civic, and community leaders trained at its best institutions.

Betraying Our Youth: Global Youth Caucus Statement on the Biden v. Nebraska Supreme Court Decision
On June 30th, the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the Biden administration's student loan forgiveness program was a blow to as many as 43 million people burdened by overwhelming student debt. This ruling raises concerns about the court's impartiality and its commitment to representing the interests of all.
The six-member conservative majority on the bench decided, instead, to prioritize their extremist ideological agenda and sidelined the needs of those who are struggling to repay their student loans. We sadly witnessed first-hand the blatant favoritism of justices like Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, who have close ties to billionaire GOP donors, and their disregard for the financial plight of millions of students. This completely undermines the legitimacy of the Supreme Court and weathers away any public trust left in the institution and its supposed ability to protect the rights and well-being of the average citizen.

GWC Chair’s Statement Marking One Year Since the Fall of Roe v. Wade
Today marks the first anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a decision that shook the foundations of our nation and forever altered the landscape of women's healthcare.
As the leader of the Democrats Abroad Global Women’s Caucus, I understand that this issue has never been about saving unborn babies, or even about controlling women. It’s about controlling all aspects of society. The admitted goal of the authoritarians who knocked down Roe a year ago is to roll back a generation of progress in civil rights across the board. We’ve watched it happening with book banning, increased voter suppression, outrageous new anti-LGBT legislation, and more.
