Hispanic Heritage Month: Congresswoman Nanette Barragán (D-Calif.)

The first Latina elected to represent California’s 44th district, Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán is a natural-born fighter for families, economic justice, and immigrant rights. Whether crossing the border to meet with asylum seekers, confronting insulin manufacturers over skyrocketing drug prices, or backing a bill to hold Donald Trump accountable, Barragán appears unacquainted with the concept of backing down.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Increasing Voter Turnout with Musician Julieta Venegas

As we continue to celebrate notable Latinx persons during Hispanic Heritage Month 2019, the Democrats Abroad Hispanic Caucus urges all Americans to take the time to reflect on the vast contributions made to the cultural fabric of the United States by Hispanic Americans. One of the many ways to engage with this discourse surrounding Hispanic-American life and culture is through music. Julieta Venegas, a Mexican-American singer and songwriter, uses her art to address political topics relevant to the United States and Mexico.

Mes de la Herencia Hispana: Un Homenaje al Periodista Jorge Ramos

Mientras continuamos reconociendo latinoamerican@s notables durante el curso del Mes de la Herencia Hispana en 2019, el Caucus de los Demócratas Hispanos en el Extranjero se complace en rendir homenaje a Jorge Ramos, periodista mexicano-estadounidense ganador de un Emmy, por sus numerosos logros en su trabajo periodístico persiguiendo el descubrimiento y comunicación de la verdad.

Jorge Ramos nació en México en 1958, y más tarde se naturalizó como ciudadano de los Estados Unidos. Él obtuvo su licenciatura en la Universidad Iberoamericana en la Ciudad de México, y su maestría en la Universidad de Miami. Desde mediados de los años 1980 hasta la actualidad, en su posición de conductor de noticieros en Univisión, él ha cubierto eventos de gran importancia mundial, con una actitud crítica y poniendo gran atención al impacto que líderes y circunstancias tienen en la vida de la gente normal y en la integridad de nuestro sistema.

Hispanic Heritage Month: A Tribute to Journalist Jorge Ramos

As we continue with recognizing notable Latinx Americans over the course of Hispanic Heritage Month 2019, the Democrats Abroad Hispanic Caucus takes great pleasure in paying tribute to Emmy award-winning Mexican-American journalist Jorge Ramos for his many achievements in uncovering and communicating the truth in news. 

Jorge Ramos was born in Mexico in 1958 but later became a naturalized U.S. citizen. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ibero-American University in México City in addition to completing his Master’s degree from the University of Miami. From the mid-1980s to his current Univision anchor position he has covered major world events with a critical mind and a focus on the impact that leaders and circumstance have on everyday people and the integrity of our system.

ICYMI: Blog Post On The Importance Of U.S. Latinos Abroad

As Latinx voters and allies of the Latinx community, we know the importance of U.S. policies on things like taking immediate action to address climate change, having a fair and just immigration policy, and needed tax reform for disenfranchised Americans.

Mes de la Herencia Hispana: Distinguida Líder de la Comunidad Hispana de Ohio, Lilleana Cavanaugh

Durante los primeros seis años de mi vida, viví en el Duodécimo Distrito Congresual de Ohio. Ubicado en el corazón de Estados Unidos, esta área de la clase trabajadora abarca siete condados, cubre los suburbios del norte de Columbus hasta las áreas rurales más al norte. Una persona de mi distrito congresual destaca como una verdadera líder de las comunidades latinas de Ohio. El nombre de esta notable latina es Lilleana Cavanaugh. Debido a sus esfuerzos para organizar y educar a los latinos sobre los deberes cívicos que conlleva la ciudadanía estadounidense, el Comité Hispano de Democrats Abroad se enorgullece de honrarla durante este Mes de la Herencia Hispana.
