Our Executive Committee meetings are usually held on the second Thursday of the month. However, our next meeting will be held in person and online at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 14. Members are welcome to join us at the meetings. Please contact Richard at [email protected] for the address and meeting link.
DAA is making a strong effort to include in our monthly newsletter all the information you need to stay up to date. By sending you fewer emails, we hope you will read those you receive. Thanks for reading!

24 for ‘24 Sustaining Donor Drive
Over the past months we’ve asked members, such as yourself, to support our 2024 get out the vote efforts by becoming a one time or sustaining donor.
Our goal was to get 24 new donations by Valentines Day – we haven’t received a single one.
Yet our spending needs to continue. At this month’s ExCom meeting we allocated about $2000 to:
- Call all our DA Austria members in late January and early February
- Run the Global Presidential Primary voting center so that our members can cast a ballot in person and remotely
- Restock our Get-Out-the-Vote advertising materials to post throughout Austria
And there will be more expenses over the coming months as we:
- Pay for permits for voter registration tables in public places to drive up ballot returns in the spring and summer
- Advertise in social media and local press
- Send postcards to remind our members and turn them out to vote in November
In order to hold these activities, we need to guarantee our funding. For that we need your help! That's why today, I am asking again for your support of $5, $10, or $24 – essentially what you spend on a coffee. Let the DA Austria volunteers know you appreciate all the work they do throughout the year.
Send us a Valentine.

Inside DA Austria:
Mark your Calendar! DA Austria’s Annual General Meeting
We’re looking forward to engaging with members and volunteers during the annual meeting. Come meet DA Austria’s current leaders and learn what the organization has been doing in 2023 and the strategic plan for 2024. This will be an opportunity for our membership and the broader community to add your voice as we set our course for 2024.
We look forward to seeing you at DA Austria’s AGM on March 17 in 1070 Vienna. RSVP: https://www.democratsabroad.org/at_2024_03_agm
Volunteers & Interns Needed
The only way we can keep the White House and Senate, and flip the Congress is by getting all Americans in Austria to register, request, and return their ballot for the November election. It’s all hands on board and we need your help! We have lots of interesting opportunities for you to help with wherever you may be located in Austria and however much time you have to give. Democrats Abroad provides the margin of victory in close races up and down the ballot. In 2020 we sent home the votes that helped win the election in Georgia and Arizona for President Biden.
Take a look at a few requests our teams have: https://www.democratsabroad.org/jenniferrakowstepper/volunteers_interns_needed
Ballot Assistance Events Around Austria
Graz, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Feldkirch — Many of you are too far from Vienna to be able to vote in person at Webster University, but that doesn't mean you can't vote together! At a Ballot Assistance Event (BAE) existing and new members can get together to build community and vote remotely – and get an "I Voted" sticker. Get in touch if you're interested to find out more about holding a voting event in your area. We'll support you with everything you need to know to make it a fun event! Contact the GPP team at [email protected]

The 2024 Global Presidential Primary:
Who Can Vote in the GPP?
The Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary (GPP) runs from March 5 to March 12, 2024, at voting centers around the world to help select the next Democratic presidential candidate.
Democrats Abroad will send delegates to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August 2024, reflecting our primary results. These delegates will be elected at our regional and global conventions in May, 2024.
-
Primary Voters must meet the following criteria to vote:
- Reside abroad and be a US Citizen
- Be a member of Democrats Abroad
- Be 18 as of November 5, 2024
- Not have voted, or plan to vote, in any other 2024 state presidential primary.
-
Voters may vote in person at voting centers around the world between March 5 and March 12, 2024.
- DA Austria’s voting center will be at Webster University on March 5 and March 9. RSVP here:
- Remote primary ballots will be available from February 13, 2024 through March 12, 2024.
- Voters may register and request their primary ballot via VoteFromAbroad.org or via a google form
- Democrats Abroad allows same-day registration and ballot requests for voters participating in the Global Presidential Primary.
Participate in the Global Presidential Primary in Austria!
Find out more about the Global Presidential Primary and how you can run to be a delegate here: https://www.democratsabroad.org/2024primary.
Why should voters participate in the Global Primary?
Lots of reasons!
First, participating in the Global Presidential Primary shows the US (and the world) how important our elections are to US citizens living abroad – and how important WE are to those elections. Our strength is in numbers, and by making our voices heard loudly, we make the issues that matter to us known. Voting in the Global Presidential Primary is a forceful way to advocate for those issues.
-----------
Issues & Actions:
Request your Ballot Today
Help us save volunteer time and donor money over the next months. Go to VoteFromAbroad.org TODAY and request your ballots for 2024. You benefit by being ready to vote in every election and receiving your ballots by email. We benefit by meeting our goal of reaching a quarter of DA Austria’s members – that’s 419 members – in the first quarter.
Why Use the Federal Postcard Application on Vote from Abroad?
Overseas voters should request their ballot in each calendar year to ensure they receive a ballot and their vote will be counted. Requesting your ballot with a Federal Postcard Application (FPCA) via Vote from Abroad provides you as a voter with state voting information that has been checked to be accurate and up to date.
But the service VFA provides goes even further: trained volunteers at Vote from Abroad provide voter help through our 1:1 voter help Zoom Rooms, DA hires a voter protection expert to work with voters when they think they’ve been disenfranchised or unable to vote, and DA advocates with state legislatures to expand ballot access and voting rights for US citizens abroad.*

Kitchen Table Talk I – Tuesday, January 30
It was wonderful to see familiar and new faces at the first Kitchen Table Talk of 2024 on January 30. Tanya Lolonis, coordinator of DA Austria’s Solidarity Sundays, led the discussion and guided the participants through conversations around potential 2024 platform topics. It was great to share perspectives and exchange experiences in a productive and impactful way.
Be sure to RSVP and join the next Kitchen Table Talk on Sunday, February 11.
Thank you for reading the February Newsletter!
