Democrats Abroad Reparations Task Force joins Democratic leaders and 150+ organizations in urging executive action during Black History Month

The Democrats Abroad Reparations Task Force (DA RTF) was honored to stand alongside Representatives Barbara Lee, Sheila Jackson Lee, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman, who penned a letter to Joe Biden on President's Day urging executive action on top racial and reparative justice priorities.

Among the legislation mentioned in the joint letter are H.R. 40 and its Senate companion, S. 40. The bills call for the establishment of a federal reparations commission for Black Americans, which the president can enact via executive order without congressional approval.

Our coalition also calls for reparative action to address the $14-trillion racial wealth gap and other ongoing harms, as outlined in Congresswoman Cori Bush’s historic H.Res.414 Reparations Now resolution.

The DA RTF and DA Global Progressive Caucus on Monday joined over 150 organizations and grassroots groups in pointing out the urgent need for action during Black History Month.

"For far too long, the scars and trauma of racial inequity have marred the United States. The time for change and action is now," the organizational letter states.

"Together, we stand ready to support and engage in the work ahead. With your leadership, we can turn the tide of history. We can begin to heal the past and present wounds and move forward with a shared vision of an America that truly embodies the ideals of liberty, justice, equity, and equality for all."

The DA RTF encourages Americans around the world to amplify the demand for reparative justice by calling/emailing the White House during Black History Month.
